Listening to our new manager Roberto Martinez applauding our academy and talking up the potential in our youth ranks, who do the insiders on here reckon is possible going to make a breakthrough to the first team squad in the next year or two? Also read somwhere this week that Bidwell is on the verge of a transfer to Brentford. Wasn't he meant to be the next big thing coming through our ranks?

Unfortunately there is only "a Rooney" in 20 years time.

Only Osman, Hibbert and Anichebe made it in the last 10 years.

As a result, don't put too much hope on the academy.

....I think Bidwell has found his level. Watched him closely in the play off games and he will be good enough to get a living out of the game but not top standard. It really is a massive step up that it makes predicting who might come through very difficult. I often think the FA Youth Cup is a good gauge. Its amazing how many quality players come through from sides winning that. Norwhich knocked us out last season and went on to win it so I predict they have a few gooduns there.
The likes of Rooney, Osman, Hibbert, Jeffers, Dunne et al all came from the back of good FA Youth Cup teams. Not sure about the current crop. I'm not convinced by Barklay but like the look of Lundstram and Long. I also think JohnStones might be the real deal and I look forward to seeing him, but as I say it is a massive step up and if one comes through we have done well.

Obviously Ross Barkley, George Green, Matthew Kennedy, Chris Long and John Lundstram. Robby might give Vellios a go as well as he'll already know about him, (Vellios' first goal for Everton), to be honest I think only one of these has potential to be world class.

Don't believe in that tbh. Personally think that one of Moyes's major flaws was his handling of the youth academy.

If all those academy players are that good, they should have made it somewhere else. Like Jags and Baines.

In reality, are there any released academy players in the Moyes era have actually made it elsewhere?

...wow, thats some statement. If one of these had potential to be 'world class' he would be in the team now.

Vaughan is talking to Palace about a move, Baxter is trying to get a move poss Blackpool, Wallace Tranmere captain could play at a higher level and will do. Although I get the feeling you are intent on being negative about our youth academy, so I may be wasting my time.
