You really think she is comparable to Zidane, Baggio, Ronaldo?Throwing Mia Hamm into the mix for this time frame.
Ive got Bergkamp in my 5. Owen is there because of his goal.
Baggio - breakthrough at 90, best player at 94 and should not have been dropped for a half fit del piero at 98
Dunga - changed his teams fortunes in 94, big player across all three
Maldini - played in all three and just a class act
Matthaus - star of 90 and still a good player at 94 and still played at 98
Zidane - doesn't have the set like the other guys but a star was really born in 98 and went on to be a most elegant of powerhouses and a delight to watch
Tempted to put Hagi or Maradona in but beaten by guys who had more success at more tournaments or at least won it
Nah mate, brilliant goal.I know, I was just saying. Owens goal wasn't even that good. Little runt.

Definitely the best female player of her time, but not even good enough to get into the Saudi team that got humped 8 0 by Germany
I do get your point, but Americans are different in that regard. If we talk about womens football, we specifically mention womens football. The thread title didnt mention womens world cup, therefore, rightly or wrongly, the natural assumption (as you will notice from every other reply) is the mens game. And the thread title did ask for the best players. Women such as Mia Hamm may be more iconic or influential than the men named in the thread, but she is not a better player than them. But hey, it's not my thread and you do have a valid argument.I wanted to throw her name in the mix because yes she was the best female player of her time, but also because of the influence she had on future players of the game. Yes female players. The largest building on Nike's campus is named in her honor.
Could she have been competitive vs Zidane, Baggio, or Ronaldo athletically? Of course not. This thread didn't define the parameters in that way.
Mia Hamm is one of the best World Cup players of the 90's in my eyes. She was a giant...bigger than any of those guys you mentioned. At least over here anyway.

On the subject of the womens game, what is the general opinion on Sam Kerr? Being from Perth, we obviously think she is the best female player on the planet, is she as highly regarded elsewhere?
