I am quite a good cook so the missus tells me. The best way for me is to pour a beer and use the BBC Good food web site. I enjoy cooking so much more with a beer or a glass of wine. I tend to follow the recipes on there as much as possible and if I haven't got something in that the recipe requires I google a substitute to replace it. James Martin's beef stew and dumplings is a winner for example. I cannot get swede over here so used sweet potato. It is just step by step. I also look for the higher star ratings on the recipes and read the comments. Some people tweak the recipes themselves which gives you another twist.

Sam the cooking guy is a youtube channel and he does some really nice stuff, have made a few things from that and they were all nice.

Here is the links for several websites that have easy recipes. Not sure what you enjoy eating so hopefully you find something here worth cooking that's easy enough to give it a try.

Ta very much, loads of info there. @marnie drinking while cooking sounds like it could spice things up

If you have a slow cooker I have a lot of easy recipes that I can share. If you don't have one then I would recommend getting one, they are relatively inexpensive and they will make your life easier too when it comes to cooking. Cheers for trying to be a better cook in 2021.

It's all about not making it a chore and learning and also enjoying it as you go (for me anyway) You will be surprised what you can nail in a week or two. Half butter to flour in a mixer with a touch of salt and a few drops of water = short crust pastry. The same amount in a jug milk, flour, and eggs = perfect Yorkshire pudds providing you have heated the oil on a high temp before you pour the batter in. I put the oil in and have half a glass of wine and half a ciggy then add it.............Never failed me lol lol

No I don’t have one. I’ll look into it. Do you just basically throw the food in and then leave it for a few hours?

Pretty much, depending on the recipe some will be there for four hours. Some recipes like slow pork for tacos, salads or sandwiches I cook for 8 hours until the meat is super tender. It is so easy to make good simple food. You can leave for work and come back to a house smelling great with from a tasty slow cook meal :) I have gotten expensive appliances such as the Instant Pot and always go back to my cheap slow cooker lol

Sounds great I’ll definitely look into that, thanks ;)

When visiting my brother (he lived in Corfu at the time) they took me to this Taverna and it was the best Stifado I had ever tasted. That's why it's my go to recipe.

Yeah she is right. A thief over here is a Kleptis we also get kleptomaniac from this.

Thats what she said. She lived there on Kos for a while, and seems to be entering a Greek food period. Fine by me, love cooking it, and eating it.

She reckons Stifado is no more interesting than "stew" as a translation.
