Young 'keeper turns down Everton move

16 year-old goalkeeping prospect Andre Grube turned down a move to Everton because he did not want to leave home.

The Hannover 96 keeper had a four-day trial at Finch Farm and was offered a deal to join the Academy but he elected to stay in Germany and finish his schooling rather than move to Merseyside.

“I did not want to leave home,” he told Bild, via SetantaSports.com.

“That’s why I said no to Everton.

“I am going to finish my studies. School is important. With football you can get an injury and it can all be over.”

Grube will be staying in the Bundesliga after signing a new at Hanover deal that ties him to the German club until 2011.

Good to see him being sensible, should arrange a deal to sign him when he finishes school if he's decent

I think it's healthy when young players opt to stay in their homecountries while still in school, when given the chance to go abroad as a "youth pro".

We will snatch up someone else instead. (y)

At least he's got a good head on his shoulders

Yea, fair play to the lad, at least it sounds like hes got his head screwed on.

Agreed with the above.

At least he's got his head screwed on

If were in for keepers, i'd like to see alex smithies at goodison, apparently he's really good (y)

Can't blame him, we have a reputation of signing hot young keepers who then turn out to be poop. All the way back to Gerrard, Simonsen, Wright, all England regulars in waiting. It's a funny business. The other lot have done no better with Kirkland and Carson.

The problem is, most keepers dont bloom untill mid to late 20s. Theres exceptions of course, but most of them are fairly crap when young. Just my take on it.

Anybody tell me if Iain Turner is going to make the grade?
I havent seen him play enough myself, but he's brilliant on FM!

Cant say ive seen enough to judge him. I dont rate him from what ive seen, but its very hard to judge anybody properly without watching them for a longish period.

Not sure why that should be the case though. Joe Hart did well at Man City. The likes of Buffon and Casillas both played at a very early age. I think the problem is more that keepers are so rarely rested. This season the likes of Gosling and Rodwell have both had game time that has helped their development. The keepers don't get that because Howard is rarely injured and seldom rested. Being a #2 keeper must be a [Poor language removed] job because you're rarely called upon, yet when you are you're expected to hit the ground running straight away because you may only get one game.

Yes that must be a factor, I mean you mentioned Hart, Buffon and Casillas, they would have been the exceptions I mentioned. But it ties into what your saying also, because these 3 did have a lot of games. And I know from watching Casillas early on, he did make a LOT of mistakes in his younger days.

I suppose a lot of the keepers at Everton have to constantly look at pictures of Big Nev around the place. It must be some burden having the worlds greatest keeper to match up to. :D
