Its very sad when our best defender is injury prone like this, nowhere near Ledley King for Spurs but the same affect when he doesnt play.

Think there’s zero chance of him signing a new deal now. He’s going into the final 18 months of his contract, just needs to wait until the summer and he’ll have clubs contacting his agent (if they haven’t been already) saying they’ll give him a big signing on fee if he lets his contract expire. His agent would be crazy to let him sign a new deal now, even if he wants to stay. Better to wait until the summer when he’ll have other offers to increase his negotiating position with Everton - and that’s the best case scenario if he actually wants to stay.

My honest thought is that he’s already indicated to the club he won’t sign a new deal or will, at least, wait until next summer to assess his position. Hence rumours of him being told he could go in the summer if a bid was received. The time to have sold would have been the summer. Every day that passes our bargaining position either in terms of getting him to sign a new deal or selling for a decent fee diminishes.
