Yannick Bolasie

Reports are now saying that Bolasie, requiring a second surgery, may be out until the start of 2018. Terrible news for the player and club. If this projection is accurate he'll be only 4-5 months short of his 29th birthday when he returns and he's a winger who relies on pace.
Whatever the folly of Martinez' transfer policy concerning players like Niasse who we'll probably get most of the money back on, Yannic Bolasie through no fault of his own is looking set to become the biggest financial transfer disaster in the clubs history.

And on that cheery note....

Nope.

Just an ACL and meniscus (I'm assuming)? No reason he can't fully recover from that, even at his age. I'm otherwise not understanding the timeline. Typically a 6-9 month recovery from the date of the injury in the States.

Not sure anybody has stated it will be longer than that.

Well, anybody with sense that is.

The injury occurred in December, so this would be a 13+ month recovery. That length of recovery is generally associated with significantly more severe knee injuries, at least for athletes in the States. Perhaps they're exercising extreme caution by separating the surgeries.

Ronny K has said all along its likely to be 6-9 months.

Bolasie was ace, and he held the highest chances created out of all our players for a couple months after he got injured. That should tell you all enough.

It sure does.

It tells me how darned poor the rest of the team was performing if Bolasie was "creating" more chances than anyone else.

Though whether or not hopeful crosses from the wing or low crosses across the six yard box which were hit with such power no one could possibly react to them, which is what he mostly did, counts as "creating" chances is open to debate.

The team will greatly benefit from Yannick making a full recovery and in certain games he will prove to be a fantastic asset, though never a starter in them all.

I would agree that the squad, rather than the team as such, would benefit with Bolasie in it.

The whole problem was that he was not used rotated or subbed no matter his poorLY he was playing, which was as often as he played well.

Starting against certain opposition and being used as an impact sub in other games....that is how we should have been using Bolasie, IMO.

I think you're right but that goes for any player doesn't it mate?

I think "hopeful" is also harsh on the lad. We all know the movement of our forward line, Lukaku included, isn't great and we aren't particularly strong in the air.

There are plenty of instances where his crosses should have been finished.

His job is get us up the pitch, create chances and score goals. The only thing he is yet to prove in his career is that he can score goals regularly.

Playing for Palace would be a poor indicator for anyone. Theyve been playing under Pardew for the last few years and before that Pulis, Holloway and Warnock.

17 assists in 4 years mate. 17. Mesut Ozil got more than that last year alone. Barkley got 9 last year when we were garbage.

Bolasie got 4 assists last year, Cleverley got 5. So no, he can't score goals and he can't create goals.

Make chances I said.
Mesut Ozil is A) one of the best creative midfielder in the world
B) playing in a team with Giroud, Walcott, Sanchez... All fantastic finishers.

Bolasie has being palace without a recognised forward. It's well documented that they've lacked fire power which is why they thought Benteke was the amswer and chucked 32mil at them lot.

Context is everything mate. Without a striker in the team, a comparison of assists is crazy imo

He created 23 chances last season for a struggling palace.

This season, in fewer games and in a better team, he managed to create 20 chances before he got injured.

He's a good player, as a summary!
