My limited understanding is that 1/3 of both houses face re-election every 2 years which would mean the standard term is 6 years. However the majorities are so slim that changing 1/3 of the people could potentially reverse control, easily.Am I right in understanding that in two years the senate / representatives elections will take place and the Democrats could take back both houses? I would assume, if we all survive that longthat this would blunt him in terms of his executive powers?
Also I would note that one Maga member of congress has already introduced a bill that suggests Trump can be elected for a third term as their reading of the constitution is that Presidents are only limited to 2 four year terms if they are consecutive. the USA has only once ever before had a president that did non-consecutive terms, Grover Cleveland in the 1890's.
Of course should such an ammendment pass then surely Barack Obama would also be eligible for a non-consecutive third term.
