What im finding real difficult to understand is the fact that we losing 1-0 but then instead of putting on 2 strikers NO we go and replace one for another...... Moyes goes and plays Fellani almost like a D/M whom I reckon Heitinga would play far better in that position. Now lets discuss Rodwell WTF was he playing on the right of midfield for anyhows????? Pienaar looked so lost in the match (except for the one shot) but we will keep him on, maybe he is thinking about where he might be going....

Dont we have a midfield that is strong enough to take on Villa I think we do but we will still play 5 there even when we losing. What I can say is that Distin is an unsung hero and he has improved alot under Moyes.

Moyes I have always trusted your decisions but this team that played Villa was the wrong selection once again, and to whoever on this site said that we should sell the Yak well I would think again cause we gonna need him on form as soon as possible.:o

Guessing you didn't watch the same match as us. We totally domanated midfield and the ball. just didn't create anything for either striker, if we had 2 strikers on, it wouldn't of made a diffrence because we didn't create any chances for them. Rodwell needs to play. Thats 2 defeats in 14 and we simply had NO LUCK yesterday.

I definetly did watch the same game yesterday, my question is did we need 5 in the midfield???? Its pointless dominating the midfield with 5 players and having 1 striker who cant score by himself. Playing a future CB - CM on the right is also a waste of time as well.

So if you think its great to dominate a game without scoring then we might as well get relegated with that attitude. Personally I would rather have 30% ball possession and win a match than have 70% ball possession and lose.

We always play 5 in midfield it fits our players better. We are terrible when we play 4-4-2. We domanated because we had 5 players in Mid. Just didn't create. You can't drop Arteta or Fellaini for Rodwell yet. Rodwell will not be a CB he will be a Gerrard type player.

We did play well but the biggest point for me was the difference Saha made when he came on he had a shot withi 3 mins and was so close on 3 other occasions, something Beckford was unable to do, He needs more time to develop in the prem.

Just shows me that we need a top quality striker and 451 will be fine to play, if we had of scored yesterday it could have opened the door for more.

David Villa on a loan with a move to buy then? :P

I'll back you up. 4-5-1, unless you play with width, creates nothing for the frontman. Saha had Coleman supplying the ammunition, whereas Beckford had Rodwell. To be a successful wide man you need pace, quick feet and the ability to cross a ball. I wouldn't say that any of those are especially Jack's strengths. It would have made more sense to me to move Rodders inside, where he can get stuck in and drive forward for a shot on goal, and to move the unusually quiet Arteta out to the right to make use of his crossing ability.

I agree that Beckford and Saha in tandem would probably have given Dunne and Collins more food for thought than the lone striker being supported by Cahill.

What bringing Heitinga on at right back was about is anyone's guess. It would have made far more sense to bring Bily, Gueye or even both on.

I agree that Distin has been playing well too. I'm still not entirely comfortable with him though due to him being error-prone and dawdling for too long, but he's been doing a lot of covering for Jags recently.

My two cents before this thread is impounded by the Thread Fuzz.

Distin. A fine brick wall of a man who plays like a blocker in the NFL . But he has two flaws which are often exposed by attacking opponents. Firstly, his speed will always be hindered by his size - which is to be expected for a man in that position. But his most flawed characteristic is his over abundant ONE FOOTEDNESS . When in possession and trying to clear the ball or simply pass, it's always on his preferred left foot, which when you have the turning circle of an oil tanker and the grace of a Pamplona bull, it's no easy thing.

Heitinga, I think Moyes yesterday was experimenting with something we've all been crying out for for a long time. A right footed winger.Taking off Hibbo and giving Sergio Ramus Coleman the chance to open up his legs and play wide right and leave the defensive duties to Jonny was genius in my eyes. From the moment he came on the Iconic Irishman bounded down the wing and gave their defence a torrid time, something only Donovan has given us lately. It was experimental by Moyes - and it worked. It was then down to the strikers to finish off the good work - which they failed to do :(

We battered them for almost the entire game, we just are just lacking that final 3rd killer instinct at the moment, little bit of luck.

No need to panic yet, some of our footballer yesterday was a joy.

It was, a thin line - and many of our esteemed members went all local last night too.
