But that is the crudest way to measure success. He went in mid-way through the season with the club in the relegation zone, was hated by the fans and at one point it looked like the whole thing was going to turn very nasty (Burnley pitch invasion). But he converted Arnautovic to a striker, which basically kept them up, and as results improved he got the to 13th. He basically did the best he could have in that scenario.

Important to note he was working again with Alan Irvine, who was his old assistant here. They seem to work well together and enhance each other’s strengths
