Flip it around and ask would you fight for your values, then that becomes a different kettle of fish, but even then it's not straight forward. It's a discussion I have with the other half regularly, as her dad was very anti the party. He was caught on camera throwing stones at the tanks in 68 and it went downhill from there. His values meant no uni, no decent job, no foreign travel, not just for him but the whole family.
I kind of admire him for it, but I didn't have to live through the hardship as a result.
