This is most likely going to make no sense, i've had a few drinks, so hear me out.

When Moyes first arrived he revamped an aging squad into a much younger, better one. At that time however, we seemingly weren't so hamstrung as we are now.

Anyway, could he do it again? The weight of the debt hangs heavy around our necks. Maybe it would be better to sell most of the squad, barring a couple of the core, and start again? Wipe out the debt, and let Moyes have the rest?

Say if we could put another squad together, but on less wages and with no debt, we'd be making a huge profit every season, and would therefore actually be able to spend the couple or million or so every season that we crave.

It would never work in practise. But it's a thought. We're not winning anything at the moment, maybe it would be worth a few years of slightly more mediocrity to steady ourselves, and not make the same mistakes that we've made this time.

I mean, it's not likely we're going to get a new board in. We may as well plan for the inevitable.

Its not a bad idea, but not exactly a good one either. It would be a massive gamble that a) moyes could uncover the gems for cheap that he did in the past B)that moyes would actually stick around to oversee such a long term project, and we end up with fcukin dave jones bringing in micheal chopra and the like

Not sure we have much choice either way.We seem to be back to the Howard Kendall spell 97-98 when we were only able to bring in foreign loans or free transfers - Mikel Madar anyone? I can't see Moyes putting up with the current situation for much longer and I shudder at the thought of the sort of candidates Kenwright would be lining up as manager.

We need investment and fresh approach.

Notice how i used three pro active words in one sentence? Moyes needs to bring this kind of dimension to our play, or jog on.

That's the saddest line I have seen in the last three days, you have pretty muched nailed the forseable future.

Its interesting times, he doesnt have a choice really, that if he stays and im not sure he will with his contract up for renewal in a while.

We're in a different football world now to when Moyes took over, the rest of football have cottoned on to the loan market and scouring leagues domesticly and abroad for a gem, hard work is now a given in looking for players rather then us just reaping the benifits, with wonga always an issue we are always need to be very carefull with our deals.

We should have a rule that once a player of value reaches 28/29yrs old or goes into the final year of his contract he is sold!

We cannot afford to have player seeing out deals, leaving on the cheap or finishing thier careers with us. I wouldn't get upset or angry if this was put in place. That way we can always genrate funds for new younger players and it keeps the wage bill lower.

The club is and always will be much bigger than any of it's servants!!!

first off- `slightly more mediocre` - is it possible to get any worse than the QPR and blackburn games. anyway- i dont like moyles much but i think hes building a really fine squad, its just baffling the way the team performs. Arteta going is hopefully a wake-up call, oh and btw, you gonna change your name?.................... just sayin`

THIS. say goodbye to neville and cahill in january......................please

I think Arteta was an anchor weighing heavy at times..Everything went through him , even when he showed no form whatsoever. Maybe him leaving will release a shackle or two.

But that wasn't what Moyes did when he arrived. He sold big name players and brought in younger, and brighter prospects, but he also had borrowings to work with. They were fixed assets we dont have anymore and a credt facility we dont have anymore either.

You're basically asking Moyes to plait sawdust. It cant be done. It'd require the equivalent to Moyes bringing through a generation of young players very quickly who would be the equivalent in quality to the Busby Babes...some of whom we keep, and some we sell to generate more income to buy players in.

There's no 'in-house' solution to this crisis, imo. It has to come from outside the club.

barkley, rodwell, coleman, duffy, magueye, drenthe, fellaini, vellios etc- all of them young players will possibly be a starting line-up this season and thats not mentioning the younger kids

They're already in the team and, to be brutal, apart from Fellaini and maybe Rodwell and Barkley, aren't capable of making us a force again and/or selling on for a tidy sum to reinvest. And Drenthe is hardly a young player being brought through. We have an ageing squad. Our youngsters are almost all blooded already.
