Would A European Super LEague Be Good For Someone Like Everton

It'd never happen.

Some clubs, and UEFA, are certainly not averse to the Champions League having an invite only historical co-efficient type vibe which is completely subjective and open to abuse so as to keep the money-makers in there. They would not however want those same clubs to exit their own leagues.

Spending a few seasons as mid-table or lower in a Super League would tarnish their reputations as they become sides who never win anything or even come close. Couple that with the fact that the big clubs' world audiences will soon fall away as they get fed up watching them draw and lose as often as they win. Better to have a competition featuring teams that often win games and win a trophy or two to maintain a shiny and glamorous CL.

The next step would more likely be a switch of CL games to the weekend with participating sides playing their league games midweek instead.

To a large degree success in football isn’t now measured by trophies those that own football clubs celebrate the bottom line and the strange thing is that the financial side is discussed by supporters far too often.

Reflect back to some of the comments on here about what was then the potential loss of Rom it seemed to me far more were concerned about what fee Everton would get as opposed to inevitable and detrimental effect on the pitch.

The really big clubs in Europe look at the PL deal and then look at their deals the top PL teams are clearly wanting more. Change Is inevitable

Whilst CL monies is talked up I see that Arsenal are suggesting that when all factors are taken into account their absence will cost £20 million. A chunk of monies but not the benefit it was once rumoured to be.

The likelihood or not of any pan Eureopean super league will be all down to what’s good for the individual clubs. For me the drivers will be the Spanish and English clubs.

It’s well known the Barca and Real are the main beneficiaries from the La Liga TV deal but their current deal ends I think in 2019 . That deal was the first one to be agreed in Spain under what was called Rights of Arena Agreement . That agreement in effect moved from individual teams negotiating their own deals to a collective agreement but in an attempt to keep the really big clubs on board no clubs received less under the collective deal than they did under the old set up. That agreement is unlikely to be written into the deal post 2019.

A European Super League is often scoffed at and people usually look at that happening as possibly the end of football.
Europes elite clubs, joining a league together, invitation only down to stature or how much money you have.

The question is "would it really be that bad a thing for us?"

Lets say if one formed, the clubs from england you would shortlist for the league would be Man Utd (history), Liverpool (history), Man City (money), Chelsea (money), and to a certain extent maybe arsenal (stadium, longevity in champions league) and spurs ( an up and coming club). But lets leave it at the 4 i mentioned, that 4 would leave our league and go and play your real madrids, barcelonas, AC Milans, Juventus'.

Yes it would be the elite competition and im guessing these clubs would get richer, stronger and also get the elite players. But is that any different to how it is now?

We have lost our best players over the years to these clubs (Arteta, Rooney, Fellaini, Stones, Lescott, Lukaku) because the players see the champions league as the golden challice, that again wouldnt change.

Our money would decrease aas the newly formed 16 team premier league may not have the pull, but for the local fan, the football purist would we have a more competitive enviroment?

Clubs could focus more on youth development, building a team, having a MO and still be competitive,

The unique selling point would be "we are the real football" not the big uefa cog that is all about the dollor.
Yes we would still lose players every now and then but we would be competitive, we would have the hope.

Or am i just talking out my behind

it's a ten from Len !!

I used to think the idea of a super league would be good for us. As I foolishly deluded myself into believing that we'd piss the new league with the "lesser" sides but we wouldn't, we'd be facing teams with passion, guts, determination and fight every week with our gang of cowardly disinterested rats. We'd be lucky to finish mid table even in that league with such losers running our club with such a defeatist attitude.

Never gonna happen anytime soon at least. But the general idea is a bit controversial. Nothing guarantees that UEFA will leave themselves outside the leagues aside this superlegue.

It doesn't really solve the matter of football being a multibillion industry anyways .
