Only reason I got it was because I used to know a lot of flags (would do quizzes on sporcle of world flags all the time when i was younger), so I know the names and rough locations of some obscure countries/islands).

For today's, once I had the area, I knew of 2/3 places and that was one of them.

Guess 1 and 2 are always sacrifices to work through vowels and some base letters. Will also sacrifice another guess to use letters if needed.
Works for me every time

Yeah I’m similar , try a new/ different word each day the 2nd try is always finding a word that uses the letters I’ve got and vowels I haven’t got. That is tricky, today I was daft!
