Women's Football

On the BBC red button read a quote from a woman playing in the World Cup stating that they should be paid the same as men, nearly choked on my cup of coffee.Still the goalkeeping is worthy of it's own comedy slot that might get enough viewers to make a pay rise possible. That 6'1" young lady is my bet for the Golden Boot.

....think women’s football is brilliant, especially if it encourages young girls to exercise and keep fit. I know it’s very popular in the US.
But they players deserve pay parity? Anything that gets youngsters out exercising has to be a good thing, but the non-contact ethos which helped to grow the women's game in the US seems to have spread to the men's game making it the sometimes sterile spectacle its become (other than the silly rolling around that goes on).I love the Blues, but I'm starting to watch more Rugby Union when given the choice.

...no, of course they don’t deserve pay parity at this stage of the woman’s game. I don’t mind the strategy of taking some challenges out of the men’s game (tackling with studs showing etc), as long as the power and physicality remains.

If women's football gets parity on pay with men's then I'm getting my gender reassigned and signing for the first team who takes me.

I've just come to the same conclusion watching Eng/Scot after 5 minutes and a massive pair of false eyelashes on one of the England players.

Meh

wont be long before we have unisex football, and women in premier teams and management.

Wasn’t that Chelsea lass rumoured to be in the frame for the Chelsea job ??

it defo wont be long before a women is managing a big team, whether premier league or lower down.

I think that will happen before we see women playing in what is a men only league to this point.

thing is, if they are good enough theres no reason for them not to either manage or play.

Thing is,now any type of tackle from behind is penalised, shoulder to shoulder challenge always results in a free kick.Yes the nasty stuff of yesteryear had to be stamped out but it's become a game of prima donnas throwing themselves around at the slightest touch. Maybe the men's game will get slower with even less tackles and they'll meet in the middle.

Yes mate, then Cheryl Lunghi will win the double.

I'm all for encouraging and applauding the tremendous strides made in women's football and hope this World Cup represents another big step forward for the game in this country and worldwide.

This however can go too far with some of the ludicrously outlandish claims being made by some. Statistics and facts are being bent and apples compared to pears all in an effort to justify a particular reporter's enthusiastic cheerleading and unalloyed support for anything that can even vaguely emphasise his point.

We have free of charge primetime mainstream channel audiences being spuriously compared to a 'limited by number of signed up customers' and therefore severely restricted subscription tv audiences as if it was like for like and other absurd mismatches.

Attendances of less than 15000 being termed 'sold out' doesn't only not tell the full story, and there are plenty of reasons why this doesn't necessarily represent any failure, it gets in the way of any fair reporting on the numerous good points.

Wider media exposure both televised and in the written media is significant and will bring more followers, but the story has to be told truthfully and not misleadingly.

They should stop pretending everything is rosy, it isn't, but neither should we expect it to be.

It got similar numbers the BBC got for the Man Utd/Wolves FA cup match.
