Isn't it odd that the number of cases of athletes using performance enhancers at the winter Olympics does not compare to that of the regular warm day Olympic games?
More pressure on the athletes that compete in more accessible sports to do well 'for their country'? or simple greed?

The sports aren't so much dependent on physical performance as technique and skill.

Can't really compare ski jumping to athletics, although obviously they have to be good sprinters for the start in the bob and luge etc, but then what would a figure skater be taking to enhance their performance compared to a runner ?

Another thing that gets me with both olympics is the issue of "that's not a sport", it's the games of the olympiad not the sports of the olympiad.

Bring on baguatelle and wiffwaff.

Go and look at the blood doping issues in nordic sports. Austria's had a big scandal over the past few years which is still rumbling on.

is that with the endurance events ? i could see the shooters taking the beta blocker type things calm the nerves etc and stuff to help them ski for x amount of k.m

the snowboarder that won gold got done for weed, and then they found that it wasn't on the banned list or something.

I think it's odd how we are still able to beat England in medal tally even though we don't have much in the way of snow here, where as you guys swim in the stuff. It's amazing the results you can achieve with doping.

Yes, the biathlon guys are drugs as you say, but the (alleged) problem with distance nordic events is the same or similar as in competitive cycling. In fact, the effects of investigations into what was going on (or not) at Turin led to an Austrian member of a pro-cycling team dropping several far higher profile people and teams in cycling right in it.

you have more in the way of ski resorts than we do bunds, it may be cold wet and miserable here but we have no altitude.

there are no mountains in England.... hills but no mountains, some in wales but not ski type, 1 resort in scotland but hardly alp d'huez.

Jamaica were doing well in a ski event the other day (ski-cross).

Holland mate, the only slopes go from sea level to below sea level. They do like to skate with speed though and have an ace race every year.

i say every year, it's weather permitting and doesn't happen every year so they can have 2 races in 1 year, a couple of weeks apart.

So are there not ski resorts in Victoria then ?

Aviemore in Scotland is about the size of the ski village (dry slopes) in Sheffield.
