If society reacts as it did past freeze ups the following items will soon be in short supply or be priced off the scale

Flour, Fresh root veg, , milk, fresh fruit,

Farmers will be saying that they can't get food out of the ground and what is there will have perished in the frost..............stock up on tinned, powdered or frozen. Getting milk from snowed in farms will create a shortage very quickly

Oil and petrol, fuel is still arriving in the country but shortages and increased costs will be passed on to us the consumer, stock up is you can and keep your tanks full

Screen wash, de-icer, anti freeze, all will disappear from the shelves so think of replacements. Screen wash put extra washing up liquid in, its not he best but it will help. Antifreeze, you'll just have to wait for the thaw, de-icer, try elbow grease or the side of a CD case, it works.

Plumbers, they are run off their feet now, if you've got a mate who is a plumber bribe him, never fall out with him and if necessary let him sleep with your wife he will be that vital when the thaw comes as that is when all the burst pipes will show themselves.

If you have a blocked pipe at home use the hot cycle on a hair drier, a paint striper is too hot and boiled water is better saved as you will soon run out.

Traveling, never leave home without equipping your car with warm blankets or a sleeping bag, a large shovel and some spare water. This may sound over the top but if the next bout of snow is accompanied by high winds some of you will see what a real bit of bad weather is like and you can be brought to a stop very quickly in a snow drift

I hope this advice is of some use and if any of you guys in Canada or the other colder climates can add to this list please do so as you lads are used to it

I have never known it so cold.

I hate Winter. I really hope we get a long hot summer but im not counting on it.

Keep warm you crazy cats.

The summer after the last big freeze was cold and wet Mick, whats Chico's number:lol:

Global warming my arse.

Don't think I can add to that Monty, well done.

We should be alright down here, but good luck to you guys up north.

Tyre chains are a must, if you're going on longer trips especially.

If the RTE News cameras are out and they're filming you walking on some ice, try not to look a complete prat

There's a facebook page which is rumoured to be his. It's on private but you can still see some of the groups he's joined. One of them is Liverpool FC. Way to represent, lad (y)

Snow chains are illegal on English roads - assume it's the same in Scotland and Wales.

Can you provide evidence of this m8, as I've not come across this before. It would be interesting to see on what grounds.
I was aware that they weren't compulsary like they are in many European countries, but not their legality.
Cheers. (y)

Find it strange myself. Not sure they're compulsary here but continually recommending them on the news.
Terrible in the north and centre of Spain aswell. Floods in Andalucia. An old woman drowned the other day in her house when a river burst it's banks

Chains chew the roads up. They work great in the snow, but there HAS to be snow on the road. If the snow has been cleared and people are lazy it chews the roads up.

Now here is a few tips of my own for winterizing your car on the cheap.

Prevent your windows from icing over through the night.

Mix 3 parts vinegar 1 part water and spray it on your windows. The vinegar raises the melting point of water (or lowers it depending on how you look at it)

Prevent your windows from fogging up

Shaving foam. Rub it all over the inside of your windows and then wipe them clear. It will leave a coating on the window, and as shaving foam contains many of the ingredients of commercial defogger solutions, they work just as well, just at a fraction of the cost.

Prevent doors from freezing.

Get some of the cooking spray and spray the seals with it. It repels water, so the melted snow/ice and refreeze during the night as it cant stay on the seal.

De-ice your locks

Hand sanitizer. Make sure it is 60% alcohol type. Squirt some on the lock, wait a minute.....unlock.

Free yourself in the snow

Picture it, you are stuck in the snow. The tires are spinning hopelessly and you are stranded!

Easy, take your floormats and put them right behind/infront (depending on your intended direction of travel) of your driven wheels. the tire grabs on the mat and will find traction allowing you to get moving.

Failing that, keep rock salt in your car (should be available at hardware stores)

Even the councils haven't got any
