Wildlife in your Garden

I was just cutting the lawn in my back garden and a frog jumped out and hopped to the border. It got me thinking about the creatures i’ve seen in my garden.

I live in West Derby which is a suburb of Liverpool and i’ve been in this house for over 30 years. I reckon i’ve witnessed;

- general British garden birds, but more unusually I have seen quite a few hawks and a heron. I’ve also observed Hedgehogs, squirrels, a rat, a dead field mouse, cats, frogs, dogs and next doors tortoise.

There is so much geographical diversity on here, not just in the U.K. but across the globe and I thought it would be a fascinating insight to see what wildlife others get visiting their gardens. I recall @LinekersLegs mentioning deers in her California garden, I wonder if @TheFinnFan truly sees seal cubs and I dread to think what our Aussie friends witness!!!

So where do you live and what creatures do you see?

Great thread @Eggs although I'm not a great gardener but I love watching the wildlife in my garden at this time of year and always leave a little corner of it wild for that purpose,I'd stopped putting feeders out as a neighbour down the road had reported his had attracted rats.Might re-visit that one. I'm sure this thread will run I'm pleasantly surprised how many of us enjoy the wildlife around us.

Unless you were ground feeding I can't see a problem. Get them hanging feeders back up mate and enjoy the birds

Deer, raccoons, opossum, squirrels, rabbits, mole, frogs, lizards, hawk, turkey buzzards, owl, neighbors chickens and German Shepherd, other neighbors cat, racer snake and a variety of eastern US birds.

We get Rattlesnakes (western and speckled so far not seen the Red Diamond yet), Wild rabbits (apparently not all hares), various lizards and the occasional mountain lion and or coyote in our yard. Not forgetting the various birds native to San Diego.

Just had a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker fly into the window and knock itself out.

They usually come around after a while.

Will check it again later.

Why are you trapping Woodpeckers? Have you got a window disguised as a tree, Oh and how much are you selling them for?

Down at the bottom of our garden amongst the birds and the bees are a little lot of little people called the Poddington Peas, the PODDINGTON PEAS!!!

Got big windows and they reflect the woodlands at the back - birds fly into them. Only happened about half a dozen times in a decade though.

Did have to call the RSPCA for a juvenile Magpie that was in distress on the drive but she reckoned it had some disease and didn't think much of its chances.

There's a billion aphids munching their way through my lettuce.

SpraY with with a mild washing up liquid...retry ten days later..
.To get the hatched out eggs .....

Two strange things happened yesterday - I was fixing my hose pipe by cutting a 1/4 of an inch of the end as the rubber gets addled to fix the spray jet on and it few into my fish pond the end that cut off - before I could get my fish net my big Koi carp just ate it ...... it seems ok?
Then at nignt pottering around in my huge garden it was hot so my front door was open - I went upstairs and a young baby thrush was sitting on the laundry basket in the hall - I had to get my pond net to release it outside it was flying ok - I let my wife do it @C0YBL25 lol
Still worrying about my Koi carp when and how it's going to have a crap in my pond.....with the rubber hosepipe in its gut ?
To think fishermen buy expensive bait the hose pipe end was bright yellow and a 1/4 off an inch in size......
