Looks like an Oyster Catcher that lid.

I threw a few pictures into the merlin app and it kept suggesting Arctic Tern but you could be right

The bill was definitely red as well which might not come across in that picture

The cut (canal) back of my flat is covered in this stuff at the moment, think it's duck weed?, don't seem to upset the local Geese though

My little back garden pond is the same at the moment.

Duckweed is a pig. If you have it on a garden pond get rid, but you'll need to do it daily for weeks as it regenerates very quickly. It stops sunlight penetrating the lower layers, thus preventing photosynthesis further down the water column. The creatures that survive off submerged plants therefore suffer. Deoxygenation is also quite likely.

We have a family of hogs living under the decking, 3 possibly 4 hoglets but been unable to verify that so far. Definitely 3 though.

My garden seems to be a haven for slugs

I’ve various traps filled with bovril to

I know I’m replying to a very old post but if you plant Lavender ,,Mint ( in a large planter as the roots go wild ) and a hydrangea it will keep the slugs away
If you google plants that slugs hate you will get more tips
