Is this an Australian lecturing Brits on racism?

What dimension have I crossed over into?

Usually the lads raised here want to play for England and there's hardly as much competition for our team as there is France's.

1. How many English players gain experience by playing outside England? Compare that with Boateng, Rudiger, Gnabry, Lukaku, Batshuayi, Kompany, Origi, Dembele, etc.

2. Assuming a team plays in the final of Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, how many games do they play? And this doesnt count additional games inbetween like charity shield, community shield, club world cup etc.

3. England and football is like USA and Basketball. Individually and at club level, brilliant. Collectively and at national level, bad.

4. I suggest you to read a book called Soccernomics. And then come back here.

5. Its not really a British-African problem. The problem is English football as a general.

As the African Cup of Nations is on currently, it got me thinking hard. There are 90 players in the AFCON, who happen to be born in France, whereas in comparison, England only has 4 players. The French NT is currently stacked with talent of French players of African descent. During the WC final, there were 5 French players, who were of African background, and all their 3 substitutes in the game were of French-African background. Then, we can look at the German NT and recently they have started to produce great players who have African background, players like Boateng, Rudiger, Gnabry and Belgium are producing the likes of Lukaku, Batshuayi, Kompany, Origi, Dembele, etc. Then you look at the English NT and there are currently no players of African background on the team. Arguably, the best player to have played for England in the last decade, of African heritage, was Welbeck and he is a bang average player. Players like Jordon Ibe showed glimpses of brilliance but in the end, they failed to impress. Then, you have players like Iwobi and Zaha, who were deemed not good enough by England.

Historically, the BAME group who represent England in international football are always the Caribbeans but we all know that Caribbean football standard is generally a lot lower than African football. In Britain, this is the opposite and what are the reasons behind this? This is an issue for England as other European nations like France, Belgium, Germany have benefited greatly from this department and England haven't.
How many Caribbean players are there?
A west Indian footy team would be interesting

I quickly looked up population statistics, which are very poorly sourced and not checked in any way, but...

According to Wikipedia there were between 5-9.5m black people in France in 2008.

While according to UK census data from 2011, 3% of the 56m adult population were Black/African/Caribbean/black British. That’s 1.7m.

Of the black population in France, 4 out of 5 are estimated to be of African immigrant origin.

I have no idea of the split in the UK, but as a result of the influx of people from the Caribbean after the war, windrush etc, I would imagine that a significant portion of the black population in the UK are not of direct African decent.

I have nothing else to go on than this quick look, but a simple view of the numbers would explain why more French born footballers of African decent exist than English born footballers of African decent, to my simple mind.

Then again, is France a particularly good example for comparison with the uk considering it’s proximity to Northern Africa?

I know both France and the UK has a strong colonial history with Africa, so there’s validity there, I guess.

More first/second gen immigrants.

Better access to football coaching within inner cities.

More role models to show it’s possible.
