Why is Steven Gerrard disliked by so many Evertonians?

So do you think the diving, dj beating, chatting to refs etc is all just an excuse and it masks the fact that he is hated for being a quality player who has single handedly taken Liverpool out of the ****ters and won them trophies in the past decade? Cause I've got to say even outside of football (unlike Joey Barton) he seems like a pretty down to earth bloke who does a lot for charity etc.
Terry McDermott, Ray Kennedy, Steve Highway, John Barnes, Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush, Kevin Keegan and a lot of others were quality players who I loathed when they were sticking it to us but I also admired and respected as players. They also played in far better more dominant Liverpool teams than Gerrard. But I must hate Gerrard coz he's dead good and I'm bitter

i cannot believe someone has actually created this thread i am sat here with my crutches, and with my head in my hands.....Gerrard was a great player but an even greater ****.

I mean if El-Hadj-Diouf comes out and says he's selfish, horrible and nobody at Liverpool liked him because he thought of himself ahead of the team (if these quotes are true) something is deffo up with him

I have to hold me hands up here and say a root cause of any dislike I have for him is because he single-handedly made Liverpool a good side for years, smashing in important goals on big occasions.

I don't like Gerrard. He might be a good footballer but I don't like him as a person or respect him. He come across as a thug and arrogant.

Only two players I had time for because they did have talent was Beardsley (who played for us) and Barnes even though I know what he got up to in the bars here - he was a top player and if wasn't for the Kopites getting banned from Europe I hate to admit but Beardsley and Barnes would have got better by getting European experience.

I hate him because of his arrogance and hypocrisy his worse than the whole of barcelona!

The first time i ever saw him play for the RS he stamped on a player and acted like a total scumbag. My opinion of him hasn't changed since.

Also loathe how he got away with lamping those people in the bar even though he was caught on camera and was clearly guilty.

In short, he's a scally [Poor language removed]...

He has been and still is on occasion a brilliant player and yet he is a monstrous c**t. Aside from being a diving, whingeing cock, he has had the same awful early 90s scally haircut for 20 years. How a boyhood evertonian can behave as sh*ttily and dirtily as he has done in derby games is beyond me. He was filmed visiting a school to talk to the kids about healthy eating and proceeded to tell a bewildered classroom at length how he and his orange wife really enjoyed macdonalds. Class. Many of us have seen the clip where he watches a female tv presenter fall fainting to the floor and doesn't move a muscle- while all around him rush to see if she's ok. I could go on.

Also forgot to mention he and a few others from the Kopites could learn a lot from Beardsley and Barnes they got hacked by a lot of defenders including our own but you didn't see them diving instead they stayed on their feet. Another thing I don't like about Gerrard.
