Why is Steven Gerrard disliked by so many Evertonians?

I actually thought Lucas was going to knock the ref over TBH.

We are Liverpool Football Club lad, we can do what we want. We are an institution.

Honestly the deifference is there for all to see, look at how our players conducted themselves after Pienaar's wrongful sending off. How it should be. Yes Im sure words were said but you never see our players crowding and jostling the ref. I dont know who those bastards think they are half the time and that goes for most if not all of the rest of the premierleague.

You're right mate, our conduct on the pitch in the face of pretty horrendous decisions is pretty much exemplary and credit to Moyes's own ethos and leadership from the top, although as I have stated before I feel this goes against us as other sides/officials see us as easy targets.

It's a c*nts trick, they've been doing it for ages. It's completely contrived. [Poor language removed].

For me, the combination of a top quality player - which Gerrard, unfortunately, undoubtedly was - and being a basic natural coward is always one of the worst things to stomach as it's completely unnecessary. He is far from the only player I would place into this sort of category.

I have no problem with players being excellent whoever they play for. What I do have an issue with is good players, especially those with hard-man reputations, feeling the need to try and injure fellow players. What makes this even worse is when they will only do this to players who are of thin/small build and unlikely to pose any physical threat whatsoever. If you actually look at Gerrard's shithouse challenges in derby games, they are pretty much exclusively on smaller players such as Naysmith rather than bigger players such as a Lescott or Fellaini. I think Gerrard's refusal to - for want of a better expression - pick on someone his own size conjures up images of a schoolyard bully, and this is what irritates me the most about him.

I don't and never have hated a player just because of who they play for, whoever that is. Nor simply because they are a good player. If I dislike a player it is with reason, i.e. cheating, cowardice etc. Gerrard displays so many of these negative qualities that he is, in my eyes, impossible to respect in any way.

I would say we dislike him because he is a unsporting, card waving, racist backing, attempted carreer ending two footed stamping, DJ beating, cheating, tit that can kick a ball well so thinks that makes the rest irrelevent and is completely oblivious to the fact it doesn't.
He's captain of one of the worst cheating teams on the planet with an army of fans that think they are somehow hard done by because Suarez diving has made him a target for not get some of the many penalties he tries to claim.
Perhaps if your team didn't spend all their time trying to cripple players or decieve ref's you may get a few more decisions.
I think I dislike him as he plays for Liverpool but also because his personality is almost a template of the club and squad which is almost built around his personality. He must be made up that you have Suarez and he has finally found a brother in arms that he can discuss dirty tactics, getting people crippled or sent off and different ways to act like they have been shot for no reason.

i dont think this years Derby will be dirty. i think Brenda has installed a 1 dimension tactic

You're absolutely right. That is the very reason why we were able to beat Swansea last year so comfortably. Brenden Rodgers really is one dimensional, his eyes on the other hand.....

I know what the obvious answer is, because he plays for Liverpool hence every Everton fan should hate him. But what I find interesting is that on the contrary his fellow scouser Leighton Baines is liked and respected by lots of Liverpool fans despite him playing for Everton. I've spoken to lots of Kopites and the vast majority of them praise Bainsey's qualities and don't have a bad word to say about him. Also, because he's a scouser lots of them want him to do well for England and hence do the area of Merseyside proud. However, when you talk about Gerrard with Blues I get the feeling that theres nothing but discontempt despite his qualities as a player. So let me ask you guys, what makes the two so different? Despite both being quality players (and from the same city) why is one so liked by one set of fans whilst the other is pretty much loathed?

I haven't read most of the replies so I'm sure I'm re-covering old ground, but here are some of the reasons (in no particular order) why Gerrard is disliked by Everton fans

1. In one of his first derby matches, he literally tore the shirt off Cadamateri's back - no penalty was given.
2. He often makes dangerous and deliberate foul tackles on opponents, particularly in derbies - fouls on Naysmith (which went unpunished at the time) and Campbell (for which he was dismissed) being two examples.
3. He is a confirmed diver, yet somehow this never gets recognised in the media.
4. He frequently taunts Everton fans when he scores against us, and is never punished for this, while Everton players who do likewise, such as Duncan Ferguson, are routinely booked.
5. He is lauded by the media as a "role model" despite his unsavoury character on and off the pitch, and his admitted association with criminal elements.
6. He is one of the so called England "golden generation", like Cole, Lampard, Terry etc, none of whom have achieved anything of note at international level.

There are other reasons too, but the above are just a selection.

As for Baines, he seems a likeable, decent guy, as opposed to most England internationals.

I don't really have an opinion on him really. I really disliked him at last seasons derby away at Anfield, i was sat with the ****e fans and the **** ruined me night, it's clear he's not the most likeable person in the world. The reasons i don't really hate or dislike him though are for good reason.

Last year my cousin went for a meal and drinks in town with her fella, they ended up in a nice bar when they noticed a big group of lads staring at them, my cousins a pretty girl so she gets quite a bit of male attention but these lads were just staring constantly, not even trying to hide it just blatantly watching them. My cousin was a bit uncomfortable and her fella Chris sensed that and was going to confront them since he's a tough lad.

After another few minutes he got fed up of the lads looking over and went to approach them, as he did, Gerrard and his bird walked over to the same table and clearly knew the lads. So Chris goes over and asks what they're staring at, the lads started acting up and it got a bit heated and was looking like it was gonna kick off, then Stevie pulled Chris to one side and began apologising, he knew the lads and said they were beaked up to the nines and that they were alright lads really, Chris said fair enough but even so they're acting like knobheads and ruining our night so do us a favour and tell them to **** off before going back to his table.

5 mins later and the lads had all left the club to their relief, then Gerrard and his bird came over with some drinks for me cousin and Chris and seemed very genuine when apologising for the lads behavior, they ended up having a few drinks as a group and it was easy conversation as Chris is a Liverpool fan and me cousins brother plays for Liverpool under 21's, before the Gerrards left the club they spoke to the club manager and put me cousin on his bar tab so they had free ale all night.

other then that, Me cousin who plays for the under 21's played alongside Gerrard in centre midfield in some closed doors sorta game, Craig mentioned his sister had met him in town and Stevie remembered the night and even remembered their jobs and was asking about them. During the game Craig said he was unreal to play alongside and was constantly giving Craig little tips and sharing his knowledge on Craig's position, after the game Gerrard had a chat with Craig and wished him well and stuff.

The day afterwards in training Craig's coach Rodolfo Borrell, had a chat with Craig about his performance in the game and mentioned that Gerrard had approached him after the game and told Borrell he was impressed with his game and really enjoyed playing with him which was a really nice gesture i think.

So yeah i don't exactly like or hate him really.

I have just always thought he was over rated, he had a couple of decent seasons but he isnt and has never been one of the best midfielders in the world. He's been good but never world class for me. Always loads of hype because he has scored a few important goals, reason being the rest of the side were gash.
