WHY DO WE FEEL LOUSY WHEN WE DON'T GET A RESULT?

I find it very interesting the extent to which for some Everton are such a dominant presence in their lives that the result of 90 mins football determines mood and behaviour long after the game.

I think I'm a pretty passionate supporter but because I cannot control the outcome of a game I'm sure as hell not going to let the result negatively affect other areas of my life.

Does that mean I care less than someone else? I hope not, I care deeply but compartmentalising emotions relating to matters beyond your control is a very effective tool.

It was two mistakes. The difference between this game and the draw at Norwich last year was that today, we absolutely dominated Leicester. That's why I'm more optimistic. I went away from today wondering how on earth we didn't win the game. Yeah, that can be a negative, but it's also a positive, we created a lot and just need to finish off the chances. First game of the season, it's a marathon not a sprint. No need to be so mad about it, it's not like we got beat.

As for the options on the bench, let's look at that shall we:

- Coleman - just back from a hamstring injury, not played since July 22nd.
- Atsu - not played any pre-season games.
- Mirallas - not played any pre-season games, had 1 week of training like Lukaku.
- Besic - okay, decent idea to bring him on.
- Osman - the definitive Marmite player.

Alcaraz and Robles don't matter.

3 of the 5 viable subs (the 3 who'd arguably change the game) have had little to no pre-season training and/or games. That's why he never brought them on, not because he suddenly became a 'Negative Nelly' like Moyes used to be.

In which case why were those players on the bench?

In which case why were those players on the bench?

Because those players might be capable of playing 10-15 minutes but not 45 or 90. And because Martinez would rather have them on the bench than kids. And because our squad isn't big enough and we have to put not fully fit players on the bench to have 7 subs.

I feel lousy as it was a poor result, poor 2nd half performance, non match fit players because of a poor pre season, the next 2 games are tough, that's followed by a international break, Barkley's injury, poor transfer window and finally poor subs yesterday

I'd rather get battered 4-0, at least it would be different. Its the same story every time we go away to these teams, I mean how many 2-2s have we had over the last few seasons and we've prob had more draws than any prem side. We always concede early or late in the game and invariably from a set piece or a counterattack. Howard only ever picks the ball out the net from the only chances we give away. We always get key injuries to key players, we always get bad refs, we never score from corners, and we bottle big games. That has been Everton for the last 10 years, the script is so predictable and thats why its depressing.

For my two cents worth I wiuld drop one of Distin or Jagielka and play Stones. No coincidence we have had our best results when one of them hasnt been fit. Jagielka Lescott, Heitina Distin, Stones Distin, all better partnerships that got better results than Jags Distin who show time and time again that they cant hold on to one goal leads when the pressure is applied.

The season is already a disaster. A point after 1 game away from home on the opening day can only mean relegation.

I for one am switching my allegiance to a team who are going too win all 38 games none of this drawing malarkey. A point is no good at this stage of the season. The extra 2 point from today's game will be the difference after another 37 games I'm telling you.

Get out now, before it ruins your life.

I think Leicester will have to make Filbert Street a fortress this season if they want to stay up; so on that basis a point isnt such a bad thing.

It's the circumstances more than anything that makes it feel like a loss. I'm sure if come next weekend we came back twice to draw with Arsenal we'd feel a bit differently about it.

It's the fact that we're consistently undone by not finishing off teams that are inferior to us that annoys the sh*t out of me.

Best place in the world to park a bus these days mate - because it's a car park now.

More than two mistakes we never won any hoof long ball duels and their sub missed a sitter - same defensive problems as last season we cannot cope with set piece crosses or long balls in the air!
Game would have been ideal for Duffy at the back to win headers away!

Not only do we NEVER score from corners, we can't defend them either. In both cases an opponent is always first to the ball, very depressing - it's not a new problem, either. I am surprised that a top coach like Roberto hasn't sorted it out by now. We look like conceding at every corner. Also baffling is the way we always struggle to deal with hoofball...

Good point Joey why are we not heading away, Distin is big enough. A problem which will come back and bite us quite a bit.

I know Jags has been darned good but how often does he head a ball away? Surely d/w hoofball is not rocket science. I think this season could herald IDC a change in our CB line up.
