Linked managers who 100% would not come now - Graham Potter, Christopher Galtier, David Moyes.

We don't have a massive amount to spend so realistically we are looking at a manager who is unattached or an international with little compensation fee. The candidates that would take the job without persuasion in that category - Duncan Ferguson, Roberto Martinez, Wayne Rooney and Lampard.

So what about little mentioned outsiders that might catch the attention of Everton's board?

Unai Emery - experienced head coach of Villareal, europa league specialist his contract expires 2023 would require a DOF to work with.

Andre Villas-Boas - 44 year old free agent had stint at Chelsea but a more successful stint at Spurs recently resigned from Marseille over lack of control in player recruitment, doesn't show much desire in returning to England.

Simone Inzaghi - head coach of inter Milan being pursued by champions league clubs, contract 2023.

Erik Ten Hag - highly spoken about and expected to take a big European job in the summer, its unlikely everton would appeal to Erik especially with the treatment of Marcel Brands. Contract until 2023.

Diego Simeone - leaving Athletico Madrid in the summer 2022 with no apparent destination. Difficult to see Diego working with Alex Iwobi and Solomon Rondon but we can dream.

Lucien Favre - 64 year old Swiss manager formerly of Dortmund. Free agent could be seen as a steady pair of hands to take the coaching while everton restructure.

Nailing my colours to this mast.
1. Kovac would be a very exciting and interesting appointment. Good managerial stats and everybody would get behind him.

2. Lampard I could also very easily support. Should have the hunger but whether he’d fancy this job or not I’m not sure. He’d get the players respect, he’s a winner.

3. Rooney I could happily take the gamble with him if he wants it. Like Lampard, he’s a winner and he’s passionate.

Potter not being interested in the job only goes to confirm that he is a pretty smart manager.
When Villa were looking, his name was thrown about the place but even though he was a Villa fan growing up and has a house in the Midlands, he distanced himself immediately. I feel he's only going to go to a very stable top half team if he does leave Brighton now.

Interesting how expectations shift so quickly - one reporter on 5 live was talking about how the squad felt they were prepping for Europe before the season - given the initial decent run under Ancelotti.

Now we are looking behind us again at relegation spots.

I don't want Nuno but I assume himself and some of his team are available so perhaps he is the most obvious choice if you are looking for safety - I assume he was also under serious consideration before Benitez.

Potter will not come to us mid season and it will cost too much.
Rooney is not ready / proven yet.
Lampard is available and very keen to prove himself after the way things went at Chelsea. I think he will have learnt a lot from that experience and would be well suited to grow with Everton.
Please God no Nuno or Martinez.

These players won’t have a coach like Nuno. They can’t accept tactical instruction or criticism. They need a cheerleader to get them through to the summer and then we hopefully find someone to sort this mess out.

A plan:
1. Appoint Ramon Planes, former director of football at Barcelona, as our DOF.
2. Appoint Marcelo Gallardo as manager - River Plate's most successful manager - "He is the most successful coach at the international level in club history to date, with seven international titles: two Copa Libertadores (2015 and 2018), the 2014 Copa Sudamericana, three Recopa Sudamericanas (2015, 2016, and 2019), and the 2015 Suruga Bank Championship. "
3. Let Planes appoint a coach from Barcelona youth academy to replace Unsworth so that we bring through youngsters with the qualities required at the top level of football.
4. Use Gallardo's knowledge of South American football to buy the best South Americans there are available. A lot cheaper than English players and much lower salaries.
5. Use Planes's knowledge of Spanish football to buy the best young Spanish footballers available, hopefully some from Barcelona who can't break into the first team - they are most definitely coached to have the qualities required at the top level.
6. Uninstall football manager and go outside

One thing that slightly worries me about Lampard is that Chelsea have such a great youth setup, they are turning out many PL level players - we don't have that to give him.

I think Potter would come tbh. He’s got Brighton mid table - they aren’t going to be challenging for Europe, and as such he’s just not going to offered a job at a top 6 club.

The absolute best his next move would be is the likes of Leicester, Villa or West Ham (all have solid looking managers in place) or.. Everton, who would probably double his wages.
