Who will be proved right? Moyes or Rodgers.

When Rooney burst into the first team at Everton he stood out so much that he made the seasoned proffesionals look distinctly average. That year we came very close to being relegated in what was Moyes worst season with us. It seems strange, when you have a brilliant player that carries a team, that the team seemed to suffer. Fast forward a decade or so and we had Barkley out shine everyone in the Everton team and, as we all know, Moyes removed him from the team. Again this left most of us scratching our heads because he was the glimmer of hope. Eventually we recovered and had a good finish to the season. Now then, Liverpool. Quite similar circumstances really. A young gifted footballer carrying the hopes for the red side and over shadowing every other player in the team. Rodgers, however, shows no sign of removing him from the first team and letting the seasoned professionals sort out the mess they are in.
Of course it is not a fair comparison as I'm sure many will point out but I do think that it is interseting and I hope Moyes's decision to drop Barkley is proved right by Rodgers decision to continue with Sterling and seeing them in a dog fight for premiership survival come the end of May.

when did this happen?

As some have already mentioned you can't really compare a central player to someone you throw in to the wing. A lot of youngsters are given time on the wing if they have the pace for it seeing as you generally don't have as much defensive responsibility and most of the defensive work is just leg work. Losing the ball centrally can lead to all sorts of problems and also generally requires a more mature footballing brain as more is needed than just to run through, try some footwork and flick the ball in to the box. That said, I saw Sterling a couple of times last season, at the mini derby and for the U19? national side and he looked very good. I've seen Barkley a couple of times and he's been mostly ok but I'd say it's understandable that he's not in our first XI.. and it's not like the RS have any alternatives to Sterling anyway.

I think it says more about the strength f the existing squads than anything else. We had little choice but to play Rooney due to available alternatives and he shone largely due to the lack of quality surrounding him. Rodgers finds himself in a similar position now with Sterling. Moyes on the other hand is not so desperate that he has to rely on a young player clearly still in the development stages of his career and is able to loan him out for the benefit of the kids long term future. I also don't think that Barkely has, as yet outshone anyone in the Everton team

when did this happen?

It didn't. What did happen is that people see a promising young prospect and kid themselves that this promise is actually the finished article. They glorify good performances for one so young and inexperienced so that they kid themselves that they're actually seeing the finished article. When said prospect starts having difficulties and doesn't build on their promise, the mist starts to subside and people begin to blame the player for not living up to these supporters' ridiculously high expectation and the player starts getting dog's abuse. See Jack Rodwell as a prime example.

DM needs to play a youngster in their correct position eg, Coleman, Junior, PN & TH can not play for ever -if I see PN & TH on the same teamsheet tonight I fear tyhe worst in the result -PN in midfield must be a non starter imo!

Sterling is having to play as they have no pace of guille in the side, despite having spunked £150M on players in 2 1/2 years.

Rodgers has a squad that is average with a capital 'A'. The ****e have been carried by Stevie Me for years, now his star in on the wane their extremely average side is looking exactly what it is.

When did Barkley come in & carry our side btw? I must have missed it........
