Who was our last decent skipper?

Is Jags Captain Ahab or the guy off the Titanic? He always seems to have a whale beside him, but whenever he looks up he sees an Iceberg dead ahead.
Is Capt Jags Capt Ahab or Capt Smith? Good question. Oftentime, given his disappearance act at key moments, I think Capt Jags is more-like Capt Oates.

In my opinion, Alan Ball was awful as captain, don't get me wrong, he was the greatest Everton player I have ever seen, but he was so intense it detracted from his game. He would be bollicking everyone for not matching his standards (they couldn't) and as a result they were all falling out and arguing all over the shop.
Better when Labby was back in charge and Bally could get on with his game.

A lot of truth in this. Apparently Johnny Morrissey pinned Bally up against the dressing room wall after the little man had bollocked him in one game, saying "Don't ever do that to me again!"

Didn't help that Bally, my all time hero, had a dip in form the season he took over the captaincy, after the 1970 World Cup.
