Just emptying out some personal possessions and came across an old newspaper containing the following quotation from an ex-Everton player in which he's talking about Evertonians:

"They are a special kind of people. When you look from the outside, you think, 'all fans are the same'. But these are different. Everton is their lives. They don't demand Ronaldinho skill, but, as they say, if you put in your shift you'll do - win, lose or draw."

Guesses invited as to who the player was.
