I reckon Jags was 3rd choice towards the end of last season.

He was well over his injury for ages but Bobby didn't want to drop Stones. Jags only got brought back in as Bobby knew he was going the World Cup.

I love Jags but I said before the World Cup that I wanted him to do well so we might of got a 10 mill + offer from a desperate, richer club like Arsenal.

That ship has probably sailed now but I would move him offer if we got a v good offer.

I would say Jags edges it just but if Stones has another good season like last he will take his place as our best central defender

Distin, how he doesn't have an international cap is beyond me. although I think Distin and Jags complement each other superbly.

well, he's retired now. funny guy.

I m retiring from France team. It was a wonderful experience and after a record of #0 cap it's time to say goodbye and focus on my club

I think Jags, slightly, all things considered, Distin still a rock, and Stones, with a little more experience will improve and improve. Would be interesting to redo in a year.

I've gone for Jagielka. He's our best all-round last-ditch, in the air, sliding tackle, defender. But Distin is brilliant in one on ones on the left side of our defence. I can't remember him messing up more than a handful of times in a few years. He always finds a way out of trouble. Stones obviously is our best centre back on the ball, but defensively he has to add a bit of aggression and then he'll be one of the best around.

Alcaraz is one of the worst defenders I've ever seen play for Everton. Not only that he looks overweight, unfit, and hes always out injured with mysterious muscle fatigue injuries. Surely we are better than this now

They all have their flaws. Stones is still learning. Distin drops some clangers at times and Jags just as often but not in such dangerous positions. Alcaraz is a very good footballer but hasn't shown it so much for us yet.

I'd say Jags pips it. Still mad at Distin for that needless late freekick in the derby that they equalised from.

Jags for me is a brilliant centre half. He may not be blessed with blistering pace (if he could shift like Distin he'd be exceptional) but his reading of the game and tackling mean he is still one of the best English defenders about.
If Stones can maintain his current progress he has the potential to be world class.
Honourable mention to Sylvain who is just a beast.

Jagielka is best positionally has average pace but poor with distribution. Distin is quickest but gets caught out positionally on occasion and has slightly better distribution. Alcaraz is between Distin and Jagielka in positional sense but is slow and injury prone however on the ball he is far superior to the other two. Stones is quick and good on the ball but probably needs to learn a lot off Jagielka when it comes to positional sense so I would probably go
1 Jagielka
2 Stones
3 Distin
4 Alcaraz

Me personally right now is Distin based on form for a man his age to stay that athletic is incredible

For technical ability then it's Stones by a long chalk already, and he's only going to improve. And, second in terms of technical ability it's Alcaraz. Jagielka is limited technically but brave as an Ox and what I'd call a good blocking defender....last ditch tackling etc.
Distin is rapid even at his age, reads the game better than Jagielka, and rarely gets injured - he keeps himself in top shape and is very reliable.....1 slip against the Shyte at Wembley doesn't make him a liability.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching the few games that stones and Alcaraz played alongside each other as you just knew it would be based around positioning, intelligence and passing.

Real tough call for Roberto but I think he'll go with Jagielka and Stones this season in the main.
