Which Everton player needs to have a breakout season?

Remember when Rodwell was boss at the start of the season?

He was putting in some great challenges and asserting himself more strongly by using a bit of aggression.

Then that [Poor language removed] Atkinson sent him off for a perfect tackle and it all went downhill from there.

Yeah I remember that. He was consistently good and was definitely making progress, that's why I'm still confident he will become a good player for us, or someone else.

I just don't think a partnership of him and Fellaini creates the right balance though. I think Rodwell is suited to a box to box/central midfielder role and not a defensive midfielder. Basically he's a not as good version of Fellaini, in some ways.

Rodwells the obvious one as most have stated. But for me it is Felliani this season should be the one he confirms his status as an elite player constantly bossing games from him for a season would only improve us a whole heap. Plus improvement from Duffy vellios and Barkley should be good too

Duffy will be away on a season loan won't he?

To be honest, I'd send Barkley out for 6 months too. He's not going to play ahead of Fellaini, Gibson and Rodwell so let him go get some regular 90 minutes experience in the Championship.

Jelavic: Excellent cpl of months, didnt have a good euros but maybe that was good for us, i hope he does us well and doesnt turn out to be another Kevin Campbell.

Rodwell: Had his chances in my opinion plays football like a crab...always a side ways pass, no attacking flair are only mistake is we didnt cash in on him when he was worth something.

Gueye; Looks athletic, has a decent left foot, could be good on the left if we dont get pienaar signed, but this season he must shine for me or he would be gone next.

Cahill; Excellent servant to everton football clubs represents everything we stand for but thank you for your services there is the door, come back in a few years for a coach postion. Go and enjoy your time in Qatar.

Barkley: Concerned he might turn out to be a rodwell, full of promise, next best thing since sliced bread but turns out to be a standard player. He needs gametime this season and if he does im confident he will storm the prem lge.

Vellios; Had a great early season for us, showed great aerial ability scored some goals and then was left out all season?? We were crying out for a striker but he didnt get used. I think he will be excellent for us this season and will give us 10 goals.

Just my opinions, i dont think we lack to much tbh, a LS midfielder is a priority so pienaar or pranjic would be decent signings and a attacking RB would be great too, and if i was to be picky id like a Attacking/creative midfielder or to at least see Barkley playing there.

Europe for us next season would be realistic aim and a decent cup run in both cups. And for us to keep our top players is a must. If we fail to get europe this season i fear a bit of a mass exodus the following season.

I wouldn't describe Gueye as athletic, I've seen milk turn faster.

Agree about Rodwell though, I think he was maybe built up a wee bit too much and he's struggled to cope with that expectation.

Not many players play consistently well under the age of 24 so another season of consolidation for our younger players inc rodwell and barclay in particular.
Anichebe whether here or elsewhere has a lot to prove and he has to deliver this season.

This might sound a bit silly, but Jelavic.

He's amazed us so far, but he needs to do it for a whole season, because our team really does look like it's going to rely on him. In essence our success depends largely on his success in my opinion.

I had the same thoughts.

So judging from the replies, I gather that the term "break out" doesn't really equate in the UK. Sorry for the Americanism there. Shine, excel, etc, would have all been acceptable terms as well.

Now, back to our programming.

Oh, and good shout on Vellios. Needs games to see if he can put a good run together. Will Moyes give it to him?

Duffy will be away on a season loan won't he?

To be honest, I'd send Barkley out for 6 months too. He's not going to play ahead of Fellaini, Gibson and Rodwell so let him go get some regular 90 minutes experience in the Championship.

Yes some where like swansea where he can get game time in the premier league.
