On the pitch we have the strongest team i can remember, but off the pitch we are more vulnerable than ever. Without investment i think the club could go from a strong team challenging for 4th to relegation candidates very quickly.
David Moyes knows that within the current budgets + restraints he has taken Everton as far as he can. He's right. Without investment then there is nothing more
Moyes can do here. He's been here 10-11 years, he's been very loyal, he hasn't moaned about lack of money and has waited very patiently for Bill and the board to deliver the investment needed to take Everton into the top 4 and it hasn't arrived and doesn't look like arriving. I think had Tottenham offered him the job, he'd have taken it and i think if a really good job comes around from a top club with ambition then he'll be off. I can't blame him. He's done everything right at Everton and it's the failure of the chairman and the board to find investment.
If Moyes goes then so do the likes of Fellani and Baines IMO and if we lose these two players, Everton are a very different team. Who could we realistically appoint after Moyes? Lambert, Adkins, Steve Clarke, Chris Hughton? Will any of those be able to do what Moyes has done on such a tight budget?
Everton are a team perfectly placed for investment. We have one of the best young (ish) managers in the league with a track record of consistently good league positions and we have a great squad that can get better. Imagine what Moyes could do if someone handed him £30 million?
Stadium is a huge problem, we need a new one and that costs serious money and must be the thing that puts off potential investors. Arsenal must have got very lucky to find a site available for a brand new stadium in a city like London with land and property prices the way they are. How can we not find a suitable site for a new stadium within the city limits?
I understand that the vast majority of takeovers are utterly disastrous and the board need to be very careful not to sell to a Venkys or Gaydamak but there must be someone out there who sees the potential in this football club?
Although i always look at Villa and Lerner. On paper he seemed to be the perfect person to come in and buy a premier league football club, but all he has done is strip the club of every major asset they had and not replace them. So on the flips side, be careful what you wish for.
So to answer the question. I see Everton struggling towards the bottom of the Premier League in 5 years time. Moyes long gone and the current board still failing to do anything to develop the football club. Hope i'm wrong.
