Where/when did it go all wrong for both Liverpool teams?

But where it all went wrong for us was the Heysel ban.

It cost us our best ever manager and led to the break up of one of our best ever.teams.

That it hasn't been put right can be blamed on several factors.

Carter should have shown greater ambition and not taken the easy option by appointing Colin to succeed Howard.

(hindsight speaking here....like everyone else I was chuffed at Colin getting the nod but in retrospect Carter should have moved for someone to take us forward instead of trying to keep things as they were)

Then we had Peter Johnson and all that that entailed, culminating in not backing Joe over the Flo transfer when we still had a chance of making it back to the top. Instead we lost Joe and a sadly diminished Howard came back to the club.

Then we had Bill emptying his piggy bank to buy the club.......a bit like you or me buying a house but not having any money to furnish it.

That is a long litany of things which went wrong for us.

You can take your pick which one it was......but all roads lead back to Heysel.

As for that other lot, who cares why it went Pete Tong for them.....just so long as it did ;)

I'd love a time when both our teams are above those two and regularly competing in finals like we did in the 80s. And we win.
 

We have 2 huge decisions to make shortly the right choice of manager and the right location for a stadium,get them right and we will be challenging for trophies within a few years get them wrong and we will just be making numbers up

Ferguson's dynasty was some 20+ years and look how frail it is now. If you're not building, you're deteriorating. That's how things are. We'll catch them, but we can only hope every decision we make lays the groundwork for better things every time, and that doesn't always happen.

I guess I just get put off really when we are all excited we are going to spend £100m this Summer apparently. Yet I read yesterday that Man Utd are about to pay Jose £75m over 5 years and give him £200m to spend this Summer alone.

I know it is around 3 decades when both teams ruled the League, but it really isn't that long ago is it?

Hey let them live like kings now. We are realistic. Top 10, Europa, UCL, Title, all those will come some day. We need a good foundation first, and I think Emery can be the one to help set that up. I would love him to do "Ferguson's United" with us. He already did his Aberdeen with Sevilla. As long as we're competitive throughout, the year they are not, bam, champions.

Could be a long wait though.

That's why I hope we get Emery. I think he knows how those big clubs are poisoned chalices. One misstep and you'll be out. You can't build once you're out so...

What is this "both our teams" malarkey.

Most of us want every team to be above the RS and could care less about the Manchester teams finishing above them :Blink:

Such a scenario was playing out a mere two years ago, remember?

They were above City.

We were above United.

Not one Evertonian wanted them to stay above City......thankfully they didn't :dance:

It doesn't work that way, pal ;)

I like it when both teams are doing well mate. And we win.

But without Ferguson they are not what they once were.......just ad they struggled for decades after Busby retired, even being relegated at one stage.

Nowt lasts forever in football.

And the wind of change is howling through the EPL right now ;)
