Not the likes of mcgeady and alcaraz.A manager manages the team. I'm not seeing that from him, so would new players make a difference ?
And if cleverley is coming in i despair

I know what you are saying but tonight i saw Lukaku closing down and yelling at everyone else to get forward and close down when Kiev had the ball near their goal.
Swings and roundabouts but I've been thrown off both tonightplayers make the Manager for me...it is amazing how good Managers look when they have talent to work with.
I (as usual), tend to agree with your views...but I tell you mate, Martinez has pushed it too the edge of my rationality tonight. So long as we're discussing a side that depends upon Barry, Alacaraz, and Howard, and carries one half-competent wide attacker in the squad to advance in Europe, adding quality players is the first order of business.
As terrible as it has been this go, Martinez should get one more punt. But if he can't properly arrange a squad to succeed or pick tactics that work, he's gone after his third season.

all of us...but need to remain rational. We got as far a we could in Europe with our squad which isn't good enough or experienced enough in European competitionI (as usual), tend to agree with your views...but I tell you mate, Martinez has pushed it too the edge of my rationality tonight.
I don't blame cheese on toast one bit.
Next season, no more Distin and Pienaar. Mirallas will be sold, Atsu and Lennon will presumably return to their parent clubs. You have to pray that Alcarez doesn't play again. Barry is finished. And we need a new no.1 goalie ahead of both Howard and Robles.
And we are short of another striker at the moment anyway. And Naismith is sub-Prem class. Ditto McGeady.
That is a huge re-building task and a mega-expensive shopping list. At the very least it comprises a new goalie, a centre half (if not two), a left winger and a forward.
Do we write off all expectation for the next 2-3 seasons and bring the youngsters through one at a time?
Not sure 'interesting' is the word I'd use but I get what you mean. Gulp!!Needing to move 8-9 squad players along. Next season is going to be interesting.
This is what's going to be interesting during the summer. There are some players that are definitely going to leave because of age/end of loan/just leaving like Mirallas. How are we going to deal with it? Sell another big name and completely rebuild? If we start selling people like Coleman/Barkley/McCarthy we're going to need a whole new starting XI before the start of next season. Otherwise we'll need to spend out on replacements while only really getting money from the sale of Mirallas.
