I thought it was ‘a known fact’ Brands scouted and signed Gray? I have no clue either way, but this doesnt seem like a factually based article. Im certain Brands would be in the loop with any signing, painting it as tho Benny did it all on his own doesnt sound likely at all.

Either way, I have no clue what Brands’ job is anymore. I thought our plan was to sign the Dignes, Minas and DCLs of the world, not noone/aging players with limited capability to help the club going forwards. And still no RB is beyond shocking.

It really bothered me that he went to the US on a Jolly with the team, when he should have been trying to get players off our books...
It bothered me at the time and it bothers me even more now i know what a half arsed job he has done this window

He is probably a decent business man and scout of talent, but this league is absurdly cutthroat and chances of you of landing a top target are slim as other clubs are not only competing for the same signatures but looking to sabotage your transfers. File under in over his head in this league. The pressure is too much for him- hence the signing of Iwobi and others. Can’t have panic signings.

I have defended him when people have said he should be doing more in selling players, but when your right back target was a loan I don't know how there can be no back up alternatives

A lot of you have rightly pointed out that he isn't responsible for hiring the manager, but have then gone on to lambast his recruitment.

To me, the two go hand in hand. Brands has gone on record as saying he only signs players the manager wants. So you end up with players signed to play Marco Silvas system, players signed to play in Ancelotti's system and players signed to play in Benitez's system. I dread to think how chaotic that is proving to be with our attempts to create a route to the first team for our youth players.

If Brands had been allowed to hire our managers, we wouldn't have this problem, because he if keeps to a type there would be no need to reset every time we changed manager.

Brands has spent a lot of time clearing out dead wood, because every managerial change has led to a new system, and therefore players that don't fit. We just need vision, direction and consistency. And that has to come from our entire board, nor just our DOF.

Marcel has done some things well, some things badly.
I think he has suffered from the revolving managerial door that we have employed in recent years.
All managers will want to buy a couple of players at least and we have seen this has not always worked well for us.

I do think that there is quite a lot of talent in the squad and he takes credit for this at least in part, we have also had some poor purchases and he takes the blame for this at least in part,

He does seem to be reorganising the academy and this is welcome.

I do not accept the hysteria from some about him while accepting that things need to be done better.

I highly doubt Brands scouted Gray, he’s spent most of his life in England, I reckon Benitez has definitely looked at him in the past.

Or possibly Brands set his Footy Manager filter to under £2m and all our new players showed up.
