What's for lunch?

How often do we eat pork? The science says you should only have one serving a week, I'm at nigh one a day minimum. The Wetherspoons thread clinched it, all we all mad for sausages and bacon? Ham sandwiches?

Only ever tend to have sausage or bacon on toast of a weekend. Can't think of much else pork-wise that I tend to eat through the week..

Are they talking about cured stuff containing nitrites there? I'm struggling to think why pork once a week otherwise.

Just making a chicken casserole now - gonna be a bit of a late lunch.

We have loads of wild garlic growing around here, so my plan is to make it a bit creamy and then bung a load of that in at the end for a seasonal garlicky finish, flowers and all.

I'm sure the five year olds are gonna love it..

Red meat and processed meat

Eating too much processed meat and red meat probably increases your risk of bowel (colorectal) cancer.

Processed meat can also be high in salt and eating too much salt can increase your risk of high blood pressure.

If you currently eat more than 90g (cooked weight) of red or processed meat a day, it is recommended that you cut down to 70g.

Red meat includes beef, lamb, mutton, pork, veal, venison and goat.

Processed meat is any meat that has been preserved by smoking, curing, salting or adding preservatives. This includes:

  • sausages, bacon and ham
  • deli meats such as salami
  • canned meat such as corned beef,
  • sliced luncheon meats (including those made from chicken and turkey)
  • pâtés

Yeah probably have been guilty of eating too much processed stuff in the past, but less so now as I generally swerve wheat, so don't eat sandwiches.

I'm not having that grass-fed beef is unhealthy for you tho - that said, I probably don't eat it more than once a week anyway, largely due to its cost!

Variety is the spice anyway, as they say.
