What finished him was when every manager kept (unfairly) calling him a diver. Then he couldn't get a penalty if someone took a hacksaw to him in the penalty area. I remember one game (Blackburn I think) where he was hauled down about 3 times in the box and got nothing.

Good to see hes still around......wasnt sure about him at the start of his career with us .
But he had no problem finding the back of the net , even the so called big games.

So true, completely ruined his game because suddenly defenders could get away with hauling him down. Maybe I'm being partisan but I don't think he was ever a diver certainly not by modern standards.
