What's weird is I have zero problem talking in front of people during lectures or briefings, I just have a hard time making small talk in social situations. Kills me in dating. I'm confident I just have no idea what to talk about.

Yeah, I do agree, small talk is tough particularly when dating. That's probably why so many people find partners in their workplace--it gives you something to talk about right off the bat.

Can the tuneless ever hold a tune ?

I'm led to believe so. And that's not by someone just trying to grab my money either!

It is possible that it's genetic, called amusia. It's basically color blindness for hearing.

But, as far as I know, that's a pretty rare condition. Could very well just be from a lack of training too.

As for a skill I wish I had, I wish I could make small talk easily with strangers.

It's an amazing skill that. Someone who worked for me in the USA had the ability to walk into any room with any number of people in and seemingly end up knowing everyone and being on their best friends lists. Mind you, she did have a wonderful smile and was a great behavioural psychologist.......

A very good skill to have. I have a mate who is like this very much.

I'd just to be boss at something. Just one thing that I'm really proficient at. I can try my hand to many things but am master of none.

I love watching people with genuine skills though.
