europa... benitez inherit carlos team , so he also gets his season duties... anithing less than europe in all fairness would be a failure. (as it was with carlo). so 6-7

Short term deal (one year with a second club option year) on relatively cheap wages which provides us depth enough to not get relegated.

Its actually a pretty smart move. just like Begovic. Gray is a little more of a financial commitment, but for 1.5M and 40-50K/week for three year it is worth the punt.

These types of low risk deals need to made alongside more significant investment in youth. I wouldn't spend more than 10M on anyone over 23. That's how well run clubs succeed.

that’s why you don’t run clubs

Townsend is not making the difference on whether we get relegated or not. If anything he pushes us the wrong way

Nonsense that mate - if we didn't replace Benard or Walcott who comes off the bench or replaces Richarlison if he gets crocked?

Him aside we have Gordon who's not good enough & Iwobi who's a waste of space.

Would agree had we paid a fee for Townsend its a bad deal but a free transfer on less wages than the bloke he replaces is smart business.

If it was upto some on here we would have about 14 senior players in the squad with the rest a bunch of 16 year olds.

If any thread ever called for a poll, rather than a list if numbers - in case we didn't know them!

12th

We didn't need to sell Bernard and wouldn't have if we didn't get Townsend. There's really no gain or loss there. One bad player sent out another brought in. It didn't move the needle at all.

And yes we should let Gordon get some run. He's not good enough today but neither was DCL at this stage (you'd have us believe he still isn't but we don't really need to check the record on that anymore do we?) so why not give him some time instead of immediately giving up.

Well Benard was on 120k+ a week and Townsend is on a reported £70-80k so thats 40-50k a week off the books.

For sure. By I'm very confident I could have done a much better job than our current dopes of running this club over the last five years. Most of us could. The lack of vision and long term planning is shocking.
