Can honestly remember that being the most shocked I've ever been. We were that good. Of course, we all got used to it over the years.

Was talking to my dad about this post at the match and he reckons (he is 83 now) that he cant remember any of the names mentioned being as big a loss to the team as Tony Kay was! My dad reckons Kay would have made a superb team absolutely untouchable!

Haha, my dad reckons if Tony Kay had played for us for a few seasons, he would quickly have become the most hated player of all time at Anfield. My dad reckons he was the hardest player he ever saw and was also an immaculate footballer! Such a shame what happened to him really? Nowadays he would have got a six month ban or something!

Rodwell was the real disappointment for me. Look classy in the games he played, went to city injuries ruined him. Feel he could of been some player.

Don't know about great, but Michael Ball in the 90s stood out as a good footballer (not difficult tbf with our team at that time) - type you'd expect to have a really solid career with competitive teams. Walter was hopeless at developing young players, though, the club was on its back, and he was sold on [after some pretty dodgy physio practices IIRC]. He may have been a bit of a Ted himself, as he subsequently did nothing with his career, save for an outstanding step upon Ronaldo's balloches when he played for Citeh.

Bit harsh that, won league titles at PSV and Rangers. Played for England and in the Champions League.

Got quite a lot out of his career considering his knees were held together with blu-tac.

I would have said cadamartari but he wasn't very good looking back. 13 goals in 92 games? Hardly looking like he would be a top player.

for me only one name, Dan Gosling. could have been a great squad member and certainly fitted into the whole moyes ethic, he could have been a go to man for filling in different positions as and when we needed him to. Plus could score a goal or two!

shame he decided to chase the money over staying under a manager who wanted him.

Alan Whittle for me as well, have always thought he could have been a great but think he just faded away. Sad to see great talent wasted.
