Jose Baxter......Scott Gemmill......Steven Hughes......VDM......Billy......Gerard Del......Endless list of players and most of them have one trait in common..... mostly all pussies who don't like to get their kit dirty. Give me a Peter Reid, Big Dunc or Joe Parkinson any day of the week...Ones who could get the crowd going with a tackle.

Joe Parkinson - massively underrated player, labelled as a dog of war but could definitely play a bit too, same for Ebrell and Horne really but Parkinson was the one who was the driving force.
In the same sort of mould people forget how good Dacourt was because of all the other dross that Smith bought but he was someone who could mix it and play. Shame the refs had an agenda with him and us and he was suspended all the time.

controversial one, Phil Jagielka..

Although he has been a tremendous servant and a great CB defensively..

He could have been world class if he had learned to play to his limits and improve decision making on the ball!

John Paul Kissock
Much coveted up in Scotland at such a tender age, but stupidly decided to play football with his mates at Sunday league level and broke his leg.

He however didn't have a particularly good relationship with Moyes so I sincerely doubt he'd have made it here at least anyway.

Celtic were apparently sniffing around though after his cameo performances for Gretna.

....that's a bit like saying "if he improved his weaknesses he'd be better". I suppose that can be said of anybody. Jagielka is an international footballer who has played most of his career at the top level.

I was more saying he could have managed a weekness better, like Carragher did.. just an opinion mate, although he has been quality, I think he could have been world class if he was better on the ball..

....it's all about opinion but I don't think Carragher was any better 'on the ball'. Both very fine defenders, both good professionals, both committed to the cause. I don't think either were near to 'world class', a phrase so easily bandied about but only the truly elite are deserving of the tag.

For some reason I am more dissapointed with players from the youth team not doing well. I guess it's because I always hope we are going to unearth a player or group of players who can be a catalyst for moving the club forward, but either through injury or some other reason, just don't make it.

I remember Tony Grant when I was little, he was supposed to be amazing, but always injured.

Then there is the youth cup team of 98, all of them were tipped for the first team, with the likes of; Jamie Milligan, Kevin McLeod and Phil Jevons were all supposed to be superstars, but got moved on to lower league teams, some from that team like; Hibbert, Dunne, Osman, Jeffers and Cadermateri did make it to the first team, but they didn't reach the heights people thought they would. This side was likened to the Man Utd class of 92, at the time

'What might have been'

Wayne Rooney...

Also, Ferguson could have been amazing in a better team.

Richard Wright looked amazing at Ipswich...

Ian Snodin has been a great ambassador for the club since retiring but as a player he was,for me, disappointing.

He was hailed as a tough tackling centre midfield dynamo in the style of Souness,Reid and McMahon ,a future England captain and turned down the RS to join us.

But he never lived up to the hype in midfield, was out injured for ages and converted to( a very decent) right back. But that wasn't the position we hoped for.

I think that used to happen at every club every few years. Most people didn't have access to videos or info on the youth team so a few whispers would go round and they would be world beaters. Everton did okay bringing some through from youth level, but I think a lot f the players are more myth than actual talent at youth level
