The internet always, always wins....

Look my picture of Hibbo in the eye and tell him he'll be fighting for the championship next season....

It is a broader question I suppose. Is the Premier League a genuine competition where any of the clubs could potentially have a crack at the title with the way it is set up at the moment?

you don't have a picture. i'm sure bradford said at the start of the season what's the point in entering the league cup where not going to win it. i'm sure after wembley all their fans said what was the point in that run when we didn't even win it.

i guess you didn't win many sporting events in school if you gave up before trying

I'm actually an olympian and get jolly upset by those damn drug cheats. And fair play to Bradford. And it is nice that they upset the odds. But in terms of the league. Honestly? Come on, find a picture of Hibbo. Look him in the eye? Go on.

We're not Bradford.

We have different expectations.

Or at least we used to.

Mostly because of vast investments from outside of the clubs...

Nice if it happens, but we have no coherent strategy that I can see for this. So until it happens. How do we compete?

We had no vast investment in 2005.

My main point is that things change all the time in football, and it isn't anywhere near as much of a 'closed shop' as some people think it is.

I still think we are in with a shout for 4th, and if we hadn't have drawn or lost against the likes of Norwich, Newcastle and QPR then we would be right up there, near THIRD PLACE. You don't need an investment of 500 billion quid to bridge the gap we are talking about.

We do need a bit of investment (January was a disgrace), but Moyes has proven that you don't need to spend billions to breach the top 4.

Ifs, buts and maybes. We didn't win. We aren't in third place. That 500 billion would probably have helped. Imagine Fred coming off the bench to nick that last minute winner away at Fortress Brittania? Na, neither can I.

Time to get back to work. Enjoy the rest of the debate folks.

To say that we should be in a relegation dog-fight just to be 'interesting' is unfathomably stupid.
Were you not watching us in the early 90's??

And to ask 'what is the point of Everton?' is equally as moronic.

But we did finish 4th in 2005, and we are talking about the gap between Everton and 4th place. It's not 400million pound away.

In fact, it may just be a decent central midfielder away. Imagine our results this season if Fer had been swapped with Neville every time that we played with Neville and Osman in central midfield. I doubt we would have had QPR walking through our midfield and scoring a goal within a minute of the kick off!

Couldn't agree more so in sport but generally in life if you don't believe you can succeed what's the point ? Belief , ambition and desire what's wrong with those attitudes ?

Im a boxing fan looks at the buster douglas, clay/liston & turpin/robinson fights , I know it's a cliche but if you didn't believe in yourself how can you expect anyone else to ? Are we likely to win the league of course not but we laugh at kopites for their players talking of competing or winning trophies and yet they do win trophies, just maybe there is something in a 'positive attitude'

it's more important than skill mostly. Liverpool have overachieved so much in the last decade with pretty average squads bar the odd few players, mind you it'd be a different story if you couldn't win things by just drawing. hence why they don't win the league.

United's squad atm is not the best in the league, imo it's the 3rd best on paper, but yet they're running away with it because they have that winning mentality. They didn't look at the start of the season and go oh we've go the 3rd best squad, no point in trying. anyway, i think hibbo is just being a WUM, he's not being serious.

But he is right. We make up numbers in the league. Why do we 'compete' in the league? To win stuff. Qualify for Europe. The Premier league is dominated by 5 clubs. With little to no room for surprise packages like in the 60, 70's and 80's.

Why do we bother?

and this is what annoys me about a lot of supporters. you play to win things. yet when Everton got knocked out of the league cup, the overwhelming response was ' who cares, Mickey mouse cup'. if you're not watching to hopefully see your team win things.. why are you watching?

Sounds very bitter.

That's what I thought. Why is he having a go at Everton? Not every team can win the premier league titl. How about we all just go away and Man City, Chelsea and Man United can just fight each other for the title?

Here's an idea, when we kick off against United or City, let's just stand to one side and invite them to score. There's no point in existing if you can't win the title apparently.

How dare Everton decide to exist!

What is wrong with that? He's nailed it. It is probably Steve Round getting it all off his chest. We are currently a middling Premier league team making up the numbers in an average Premier league. We have no coherent strategy to genuinely shake it up at the top and by and large we avoid clear of grief at the arse end of the league.

Fair enough

But why is that a reason to have a go? We can still pull out an exciting game now and then. Not everyone can be the champion, not everyone can have a load of money to spend. I just don't see why he's having a pop. We're not playing overly aggressive or dangerous football, our fans aren't causing trouble, we've got a handful of exciting players. Why have a pop at Everton?

He's not a fan, he hasn't got a stake, he wouldn't care if we were doing well instead. He's just having a go
