What if Martinez stays.....

The problem is that nobody's afraid of us anymore.

Opposition mangers clearly tell their players something along the lines of 'don't give them possession or they will murder you, but if you get at them and put them under pressure they will fold. Basically they don't like it up 'em.' Particularly in the 2nd halves of games.

We've become a soft touch and I hate it.

So we all know that Rom has had an amazing season this year and Stones is on his way to the top. What I'm confused about in this scenario is that in it, both of them leave but you leave it at that and forget the obvious fact that they will be replaced (in this hypothetical scenario we don't know by who) hopefully by people as good or promising along with a couple others. I also don't want them to go but don't see it as a death sentence for the club.
The point is, we could replace Lukaku and Stones with players of equal quality yet still be mid table because the manager can't organize the defensive side of the team. Until we start challenging high up the league, we'll struggle to keep players of high quality.

I guess the way I see it we would have enough dough from selling them (unless we're also buying young but proven stars in the same vein as Lukaku and Stones) to be able to replace them and also Howard and possibly finally address our left wing area. If spent right we could come out of the deals healthy ahead in all respects but I agree defensive shortcomings must be addressed and we'll know more in regards to that in the coming weeks.

All blues who want Martinez out should take a step back for a moment.

Why do we go the match?

We go the match to watch us win, we go to be entertained, we go for the atmosphere, we go in the hope that we may win a cup or the league. (We don't go for the Chang beer)

We want a team to compete with the best, we want a team of local youth players in it, we also want a manager who gets Everton and who has the same ambitions as us supporters.

We have that at the moment in Martinez, OK we our not defending great at the moment, but this team know they are good, we play most teams off the park and have something special around the corner, I also think most fans do as well, this is why we our all so frustrated.

I will leave you with this point, we play Man city shortly in a cup semi final, as fans we all know we have a great chance to win it, that is all down to Martinez and the team he has built, he has the team fearing no one could we have said the same under Moyes?

I went to a match for the atmosphere but most of all to win, not draw or lose. Pretty entertaining football unless one wins does not earn points. If you want to win the PL, League Cup, FA Cup and Euros you have to win games. That is it end of story.

Put us under pressure, we fold. Catch us on the counter, we fold. Do nothing in particular, but nick a set piece, we fold.
Basically every team we play against has a real chance against us, hence lack of easy, solid wins.

We haven't won anything since 95, if (big if) we win the capital one cup and finish 8-12 would people be happy? Just asking like.
If we win a trophy, especially a trophy that no other manager in our history has ever managed to win, then yes most people would be happy

Now I try to remain as positive as ever in life and football my man, but how do you possibly come to this conclusion? A great chance over two legs? Really?
I'll be as happy as all if we somehow get through, but it will be an upset of epic proportions and the biggest surprise to me to be honest.

Team fearing no one you say...then let's hope this gung ho fearlessness scores us at least 7 goals over the two legs or we stand no chance ;)

Happy New Year :)

Will get ripped for it but I actually think the atmosphere inside Goodison has declined massively since Martinez came in. Clearly all of the fans aren't turning up to enjoy the 'best football in the league'.

I can't stand all this 'at least Martinez has us playing to win'. It is absolute subjective tripe. His record in big games is terrible. Doesn't matter what approach he's sending the players out with, the outcome is not different than before. Winning without winning, just like that stupid poster RAWK love to bring up. Good job they haven't seen the %of goals from open play table and the non loss table too.

Trophies are success so to me yes I would be happy, even if we became permanent mid-table but became a more cup focused team. Of course I'd love to win the league again but recent history says we are unlikely to without some major changes at board level.
