What have we learned from pre-season 2015?

Signings. That's what we require. We'll be more than ok.
Happily for me, Martinez seemed more realistic post-match (possibly honest is a more suitable term) regarding our need for transfer targets.

He has identified that we need reinforcements 'up front' while again mentioning this much heralded number 10 along with a defender.

Hopefully he has realised (as we have!) that Kone is simply not good enough as our primary competition for Rom; well actually he's just dross.

The youth has, as you've mentioned, appeared to step up a notch which is a positive, nevertheless experience and quality is also important.

My only worry is that he mentioned that we need to "use the full window and try to bring the right people". Maybe I'm reading into it but...

That would potentially suggest that we may we waiting until the later stages of the window for some key signings. That's three or four games in.

If it's the best we can do and he does actually get the right players then okay, however ideally we should be trying to move for them now.

Otherwise we're starting the season with a pretty blunt and ineffective final third.

It looks for sure he'll have to wait until the cash materialises...which is, of course, a disgrace.

Martinez did say all along that signings would come later on in the window. I understand that he's being consistent, however, another player should have been added either last week or this coming week. We are very vulnerable to injury - something I find staggering on the eve of a new season.

It's just unacceptable.

We have a few good youngsters on the edge of the first team. (Browning, Dowell, Pennington)
We need a new striker, Kone is awful.
Cleverly looks decent.
Martinez isn't going to change things and will stick with the same sh1te tactics.

Agree on both points. Players need time to gel with the other players. the coaching staff and our style of play. They're often not a silver bullet.

Obviously an experience defender and striker are important, but the number ten position is arguably pivotal to helping improve our fortunes.

I'd rather we stump a little more of our precious cash on this aspect now, which will in turn improve our performances, than wait later for all three.

I could... and God forgive me for this... accept Kone as our second striker up until September, if it meant we got that creative player in.

The injury aspect is a concern. Others on here have suggested we haven't got an issue, but the number of reoccurring injuries seems an issue.

Same players with multiple reoccurring injuries and lots of hamstring issues to our important outlets. Not a good omen for the season ahead.

Maybe the fact that we're relatively thin on the ground and the extra burden on these key players is a factor.

All last minute stuff. Why must we put up with this every year?

Worst run club in the PL as far as I'm concerned. They've proven this summer they really cant organise a piss up in a brewery.

If you french fry when you're supposed to pizza, you're going to pull a hamstring.

Watched barkley today and even some easy looking through balls were over hit etc not convinced we see a different Ross this season

And system wise 4-2-3-1 today it will be but with different personnel 4-3-3 probably

We just need to let him develop and he will improve over time but I've come to that conclusion also.
