Carlo proved it can be done. Low block with Holgate Rb , Godfrey LB, Keane and Branthwaite would work in a low block with 2 DM's. It's like people want to see us relegated. Away tactics are bonkers at the moment.

That system only worked last year with Mina, who is never fit. And it relied on DCL to occupy defenders and Sigurrdsson to provide set play threat. DCL has been beyond poor this year, and we all know Sigurddson has not been available.

Last year also was not real football, because behind doors football is not comparable. The pressure of playing away is 10x more than in empty stadiums and our players have buckled under the pressure of re-acclimatising to hostile away crowds.

Time, for once, for the club to back the manager and not the players. If we sack Lampard we get Duncan Ferguson, I don't even think a slug like Allardyce would be an option, I really don't think we could afford to pay off Lampard and his staff and pay a mercenary like gravy tits what he would demand. It wouldn't make any difference, this team is gone, the only way we stay up now is if both Watford and Burnley go on absolutely terrible runs and we fluke a couple of wins, one of which would have to be against Watford.

Make no mistake, this team will not save us, only the shortcomings of others can do that now. Back Lampard now and let him start the rebuild next season, whichever division we find ourselves in. Send a clear message to the players that it is them to blame, not the manager. A lot of them really need to go. Once again I say, slash and burn baby, slash and burn. It's that time root the bad apples out, don't let them scapegoat yet an other manager. This applies to the owner chairman and CEO also and don't forget Ferguson, Unsworth and all the other hangers on.

I think if we lose the club will look at the fixtures and see if they believe getting Allardyce or someone has a better chance of points v Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal than Lampard.

Well I could see we were going to get relegated under Benitez but you’re right, looks like I’ve joined a rogues gallery in voting yes there
I think you haven’t accepted the inevitable Kev, you’re still in the stage of denial; hoping we can pull out. Like many others, the worst are the Benitez cultists who up until his sacking were still denying relegation.

I accepted our fate in November; there’s always one club that plummets down the league and the signs were far too obvious. It’s a spiral that teams can never pull out of; it’s different being in the bottom from the start and clawing your way out. But the other way is a death slide

I’ve accepted our relegation and looking to the future. I think Frank is the man for the long term

We have limited low block defenders and we're trying to get them to play out of the back resulting in us leaking goals. That back 4 in a low block would keep us more solid defensively and we still have players who can take set plays like Gordon and players who can play on the counter. It actually suits what we have.

Gordon doesn't carry goal threat on the counter. And all of this is fine, but it ignores the simple fact that away games this season are not the same as away games last year. Our players have buckled under the pressure of playing in front of hostile crowds. It's nothing to do with systems and all about individual errors. That shows our players are weak and lack the mentality to get us out of this.

Confidence would build if they got a couple of clean sheets. Keane played in a low block for Burnley away from home plenty of times and was fine. And I've seen the others when they have confidence put in decent defensive performances. If they believe in the system and feel confident in it they'll do better. At the end of the day the types of defenders we have don't suit the way this manager wants us to play.

Funnily enough I had a very vivid and bizarre dream last night. I was sat in the lower Bullens for the Man U game (no idea why as my ST is in the PE), and we were losing with a few minutes to go. There was a real bubbling anger in the crowd and all of a sudden a few people started storming the pitch. Then without warning practically the whole stadium started charging the directors box.

A fella next to me screamed “My God! This is like that scene in Israel from World War Z!”. I looked up and swathes of Blues were scaling the main stand in a frenzied rage and were trying to get to Kenwright and Moshiri. Moshiri was surrounded by his “special armed forces” who were using automatic rifles to wipe out the hoards of Evertonians trying to get to them.

At this point I was woken up by my wife farting in bed next to me.

I have no idea what sort of messed up psychological problems this dream may indicate I have, but thought I’d share it with you all anyway.

I don't think he is good enough to keep on beyond this season. He looks like a crap newbie manager imo. I would sack him and bring in a more robust manager as a last role of the dice. The alternative is to standby and accept relegation.

Good points made but you've also got to think about this being Everton and probably taking about four weeks to bring in a new manager. Given their previous record, the board will not have a back up plan lined up.

Who's the alternative though?

I think we would need a pragmatist short term - who that is who knows, maybe Alladyce would fancy a few quid and his ego would love it being called back in to save the side who tossed him aside.

If we wanted a similiar type of manager to Lampard who can build for the future who's out of work for me I would take a punt on Fonesca as a realistic candidate.

I think he's not in demand enough to turn us down and is a level above the championship like Silva/Nuno/Biesla/Benitez were so you would feel confident in him bringing us straight back up.

The worry for me with Lampard is not so much getting relegated more the fact he couldn't get promoted with a good Derby side.

We're putting a lot of faith in someone with no real track record / success on his CV based on the type of football he likes to play / his personality.

All far easier said than done this. I think you are hugely overrating the standard of our defenders. I've seen them be unable to follow instructions and avoid mistakes under a master like Ancelotti. Now they can't got 20 minutes without a horrific error. Just accept it mate, they are absolutely crap and far too weak to play for Everton. There's not one of them I'd keep because the only half decent one is a sick note.

Sounds boss. Maybe someone will turn it into a plan!
