What are you currently listening to?

Ok so from the other thread, I pulled up this months BIRP playlist, and this little gem came on. Never heard of them before, but this is a GREAT cheery summer song. "Annie" from a band called Cassolette.

Completely obsessed with them at the moment.

I've gone from being apathetic about Pete Doherty to thinking he's our Kurt Cobain: an incredibly gifted songwriter and lyricist trapped in a web of addiction. The difference is that the American media could at least recognise Cobain's talent, whereas here Doherty is a junkie and nothing more.

*not to ignore Carl Barat of course.

An absolute cracker from the Beatles of Southport, Gomez. Ian Bell is a blue too.

There was a time in the late 80's when it was conjectured that The Primitives might take over the world. This song is one of those reasons. If the Ramones had had a female singer, it would have sounded exactly like this...

A real blast from the past. Heard it on my local NPR station at like 1 a.m. and I've been listening to it a bunch since then.

You're spot on there mate.

I'm glad you seem to hold them in similar regard to what I do, and a few others on here including T-Roz and icburns. Whenever I talk about Pete Doherty outside of the forum people just shrug and call him a smack head, a waster etc... But what they don't know is he is a truly great song writer, a poet in fact, who is like you said just trapped in his drug addictions.

Doherty's song writing skillz shine through on his solo stuff, where he's without the inferior Barat (he's still good though). This is one of my favourite songs ever, it's just beautiful, my girlfriend loves it too which is nice. (cue GAY video)
