They're one of those bands that have been on my 'to-listen' list for years

Where should I start?

it was David Berman/Purple Mountains previous band.

American Water is their best, pretty much an all time indie classic for me. Stephen Malkmus is in the band for that album.

Then Bright Flight and probably Tanglewood if you want a third (but def listen to Bright Flight if you like American Water) The others are pretty good but they are the best three by far.

If you remember the fairly short lived band 'Suburban Kids with Biblical Names', their name is a Silver Jews lyric.

For some reason I always associate David Berman with Jason Molina (Songs:Ohia) - Their album 'The Magnolia Electric Co.' is one I always see recommended but never got around to.

I can see the similarities. Songs: Ohio are good, although admittedly I had heard of him/them once he died.
