What Are The Neighbours Up To?

We are not alone in playing second fiddle - and it has been this sort of affliction which affected the likes of Spurs, City and many sides abroad in the same boat. If only we took the best all our rivals have to offer and Evertonised it. In some respects I agree with the OP and it is our fault for pitching ourselves as Plucky Everton. I don't consider (possibly) losing a couple of European finals inside 24 months as a great deal of failure. Where can Everton sign up for this kind of failing instead of wasting 2-0 leads and blowing it 0-3 in Lisbon, or getting back ahead against Kyiv (or City, LC Semi) and then falling away - OR Fiorentina on penalties, and don't even get me started on Villarreal.

But this season alone they've had more nights/games to talk about than we have in the past decade.

If you want to hear YNWA so much, you can pop over the park. Sod off with your ‘more nights to talk about’. It’s our club and so no other club’s night’s come close

I just want to see Everton do something after all these years of getting bugger all. This season has taken its toll. Kopite mates crowing about another European Cup final whilst our best memory is a win against West Ham at home.

It's not about me wanting to hear their song. I just desperately want to see the Everton my arl fella did.

We will never be as good as them.

In the whole history of football, we have been better than them longer than they have ever been above us . They have had one 'golden' period...if that's what you like to call it, we have had many. Even their 'song' is stolen from an ancient American musical show murdered by a 'singer' from the Wirral, ours is based on a Merseyside folk song, sung around the world by heroic sailors through the generations. Have PRIDE in the name EVERTON !

Yet this current period is the worst in our entire history and it shows no signs of changing.

Say what you want about our neighbours (and I encourage you to comment below with some of the more offensive opinions) but there is little doubt that they have navigated the Premier League-era better than Everton.

You say you're looking at Liverpool FC objectively for the first time. But it's very easy to see why they have "navigated" the Premier League era better than Everton.

They had one thing over the past 25 years that Everton had not until now ...... MONEY and INVESTMENT

Just imagine if Bill Kenwright got on their board in 1988, then tookover in the 90s without a penny to his name. ..... Actually it wouldn't happen, and if it did, they wouldn't have put up with it for more than a couple of years. We put up with it and he's still here.

The acceptance of Bill Kenwright has seen us go from being one of the biggest clubs to being plucky little Everton. I've no idea how he copes with the failure that hangs around his neck.

Liverpool have been average since the eighties like us. Yes they've won trophies the FA cup, league cups and a very lucky champions league win and a bizarre win against a team in the UEFA cup who have faded into oblivion. But other than that they've been mostly average, they were a 1 man team for a long time with Gerrard keeping them up there, but they never really challenged for the league other than 2009 and 2014, and both times they messed it up, so it hasn't been plain sailing for them. They have done well in the Champions league this season because they had an early group stage that the other teams made easy for them. Porto were rubbish, Man City played awful in the first leg, plus Roma are appaling as well. Take away Salah, Firmino and NVD they are a pretty average side they just got the luck. It's like we won of probably got at least 10 or 15 points more if Lukaku was still here, he led us to 7th last year, even though we were pretty average.
The truth is football like modern society as a whole is bonkers, Leicester won the league then sacked Ranieri he next season they only lost Kante out of their squad. Conte has gone from hero to zero very quickly, Mourniho won 2 trophies last season despite the fact United draw something like 10 games at home. Many Liverpool fans wanted Klopp sacked earlier in the season, now they all love him. French football is dominated by PSG, La Liga is dominated by Barca and Real, Bayern control German football. Juventus dominate Italian football, they were even able to buy their closest rivals best player Higuain. Football wasn't perfect lets say 9 or 10 years ago but it wasn't as ridiculous as it is now, Southampton sacking a manager than took them to 8th playing relatively good football. If they lose god willing, there will be Liverpool fans wanting him to be sacked.

I can watch LFC and appreciate the skill and talent on display. I watch every club in the premier league, and beyond, but the only club I'll ever care about is Everton.

The main difference between myself and a Mersyside Evertonian, is that to me Liverpool is just another club. If I had to deal with what you all have to deal with on a daily basis, I would most likely feel the same resentment ...but I don't and I don't.

Their fans would have not put up with an clown like Kenwright for nearly two decades like we have. He'd have been forced out years ago.

Hate them or hate them, that lot won't have a single fan who'd say 'at least we aren't like Portsmouth or Leeds' or 'well thank god we're not owned by the Venkies' like many of our fans have said.

Hardly suprising this club has done nothing for decades when the 'aspirations' of lots of our supporters stretch little further than not being a Leeds or a Pompey, or being owned by the Venkies.

Thank god I'm just about old enough to remember the mid-80s when this club brought NSNO to life and didn't have loads of whoppers who settle for us not being Leeds or Portsmouth.

Those halfies have bought well and sold well to become financially stable. 4 years ago playing staff wise we were very close. Both had average teams but liverpools recruitment stepped up again. The failure of us to make a statement signing first season under mosh was a hugh opportunity missed to close the ever expanding gap. Added to that was the failure to replace lukaku and steve and koemans shopping list that they drew up hammered drunk in in some bar in the med.

The half and half scarfs across the park have a great chance of finishing top 4 and winning champs league due to buying players to fit a high intensity fast game. The have a game plan. We dont
We are slow. We lack intensity to a degree of embarassment. Thats why we are a mid table team. We failed under mosh so far.

They are doing well under top level management. We keep looking for the cheap route out. FSG tried Dalglish, Rodgers mixed with Comolli, the dream of one brainy guy allowing you to put whatever junior coach you want with him and the success will continue. They realised it doesn’t work and went and got a top manager. Success comes with the combination of managerial talent and playing talent. We have not had a top manager since HK1.

Kenwright, Moshiri will you please read what this lad has just written, for Gods sake just READ IT.

Bill Kenwright doesn't care mate. In his head he has been doing us all a massive favour since he has taken over. The reality is he is overseeing the worst period in our club's history and has failed every supporter.
