I know its only a little thing, but why do linesmen (Sorry, assisant referees) insist upon looking down on the ball when there is a corner just to make sure that its in the quadrant. If its so bloody important, then why dont they run across the park to do their stupid check when the corner is on the other side.?? Also, if the real referee is talking to a player before the corner kick is taken, they stand with their arm across the corner kick taker as if he was too stupid to read the situation. As i said, its only a small thing but it gets on my nerves. Is there any other daft thing that gets on your goat. ??

I hate football highlights.

I especially hate the way MOTD persistently ignore my startlingly obvious suggestion of flashing up what minute it is during their highlights. When a team is desperately chasing an equiliser/winner the drama is slightly lacking when you've no idea if it's the 70th minute or the 91st minute.

It's so obvious, I end up throwing straws and napkins at the telly.

That actually a great idea.

The “there was just contact” comment which seems to just to apply to tackles inside the box, always thought
Football was a contact sport. And then you have the free for all melees for set pieces inside the box which is generally OK

soft gets dressed up wacky, so they get on camra, love to poke there eyes out with a rolled up program, and anything on the pitch at half time, just gets me going i only want to know the other results, not some [Poor language removed] who cant kick a ball making a show of himself or changy bloody texed off, maybe police or raf dogs jumping over things if im in a good mood but nothing else

MOTD highlights. The match between two of the " Media Darlings " might be a 0-0 , most boring game in the history of the sport. Wigan vs Stoke might give us a 5-5 goal-fest. Which game will be shown first ?

And how come the RS always seem to have the 2nd leg in Europe at the swamp ?

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that they have actually put a minute on beside the scores, it only appears for a couple of seconds, but they appear to have addressed this issue FINALLY!

Offside rule. The benefit of the doubt almost always goes with the defenders. Sometimes it benefits us (this week against Birmingham for instance) but I still don't know why they are so eager to flag offside and stop teams from scoring. If it's 50/50 I would like to see it go to the attacking team and only flag offside when the "assistant referee" has no doubt whatsoever. Right now it seems if they think there is even a 5% chance he was offside then they'll flag it. I know it all happens quickly; that's why I think this "100% sure" interpretation would be much easier to accurately enforce. If you can see daylight between the players, it's offside; if any part of body (not arms) is level, then let it go.

The term "assistant referee" when they almost never consult the assistants. If you ever watch the NFL they always get into a huddle and discuss the call -- not surprisingly they get their decisions right a lot more than football refs. The ref in the Arse-Barca game couldn't have asked the "assistant referee" if he thought he should be sent off for kicking the ball away? I think there tends to be some kind of attitude that if you ask for assistance from your assistant that somehow it makes the decision seem weaker -- in truth it just helps get it right. If they aren't going to ever assist then we should go back to calling them linesmen (and women!). Football seems to operate under the impression that if a ref ever changed his mind the game would collapse into chaos -- meanwhile in other leagues a ref will change the ruling after consulting an assistant numerous times during the game and nobody cares because in the end they are getting it right. Instead of just pointing to the spot like the concept of bad decisions doesn't exist just trot over and ask the assistant (in Europe two assistants) if they think it was a penalty.

Players almost never carded for diving and other garbage. There are certainly some refs who love being the center of attention. Sadly they seem to think giving red cards for tackles or a bunch of penalties qualifies them as being a tough big shot ref. In truth it would be far braver to start carding the divers, start carding the big clubs always begging for cards on their opponents. I find it quite strange no ref has ever decided to make a name for himself by being that kind of ref. Also why do we have so many rules that are never used: indirect free kicks, free kick inside the box etc.

Archaic attitudes toward replay.

Replays in Cup competitions. I know it has led to some great moments but overall it's just too many games. Just be done with it and go to penalties in the first tie.

League (Carling) Cup ... pointless.
