(At last, you're back.. pennies in the meter?)

We played pretty well, I thought. Werder Bremen are not a team to be sniffed at and some of our football and linking play was excellent.

Neville and Anichebe could (should?) both have scored, Arteta was his normal wonderful self after a slow start. Yobo and Lescott looked sound. Cahill was snappy if not particularly effective.

I'm still a bit unsure about AJ and Anichebe. They don't seem to have gelled as a pair yet. And the midfield seem to need to get used to some of Anichebe's runs (especially those across the box away from goal where he scored recently and was ignored last night).

Thankful to see Baines in the directors' box as Valente was not bad going forward but got caught out in his defending. Pienaar should be in the team at the weekend.

From the subs, Ossie looked the part and nice to see Faddy and Da Silva score. No Beattie - looks like he is on his way.

Any views from those of you there?

News report talks about chants re Goodison - any summing-up of feeling from people around you at the match?

I only read the match report, but I did see a picture of Benni McCarthy at the stadium sitting next to Pienaar (y)

That's good news perhaps if Pienaar takes off at GP, then he could convince Benni to come to Goodison next season....although why wait Straight swap Beattie for McCarthy that'll do nicely. :D

I watched the game on setanta and arteta was awesome i do worry if he gets injured we will struggle everything went through him.
We played really well to be fair and i was impressed with lescott, yobo, jagielka, arteta and ossie when he came on mark my words this will be ossies season.
On the downside valente was shocking especially 2nd half and apart from his goal and 1 pass da silva was well out of his depth.

The dangerous thing about this result is that imagine if it was a real two leg game, we would be in quite a bad situation going to their place with 2 away goals against us.

A valuable lesson if they choose to learn it.

:D It's always interesting to see how different forum rate the same player.. on Bluekipper they prise his effort and some call him the next Pele.
To be fair he only played about 20 minutes and was obviously off the pace but he gave the ball away 5 times that i saw and just looked poor.
I know he is young but he reminded me of a sunday league player he just didn,t look like he should have been there.

Its a friendly, it didn't matter. It was an excericse in fitness not a European game. Plus we are not likely to change the side around so much.

Don't read too much into it.

first half we looked great
we passed the ball and moved so well i was really impressed prob the best we have done this for a long time but this is the first preseason game ive watched so could of been doing it all along

we looked solid at the back
the midfield looked great but phil needs shooting lessons lol , he got some great chances and i think its just he isnt used to getting in the box and going for goal hopfully that will come tho

arteta what can you say, everytime i see him play he is fantastic and he does things with the ball most could only dream of doing

i see some people not just on here are looking at the result and worrying about us in europe please dont, remember we changed our first choice centre backs at half time and before that we were solid also we changed lots of other players to give the lads a run out and its after these changes they scored. in a proper game we will not be able to change so many and the lads fitness will be fitter. sometimes we forget preseason is to get the lads match fit and the results dont really matter, i agree a few wins is good for the confidence but not getting hammered and getting the squad fit is more important me thinks

we had 12 or 13 corners and didn t make them count. they had one and scored.

commentary said at the time due to the mass change around people werent marked properly. so that'll do for a reason (not excuse) for now.

osman and faddy played some neat one touch stuff, vdm put himself about (and lost the ball more than da silva did) da silva looked strong and energetic, its nice to have someone over 6 foot in midfield at long last.

point about werder, they have some good players, their midfield can pass and a few times they exposed the back four and howard in some nervy situations.

around 12k at goodison, a good run out for a few players. reserves tomorrow, palace saturday. i wonder if we will sign baines and vogel before the season starts.

i couldnt believe it when they scored suits
the replay showed only nuno trying to attack the ball but he was the wrong side of the player to do anything and poss unfarely got the blame

vdm looked like he was trying too hard, he tried to take on too many and ended up a blind ally or gave the ball away

i thought howard had a good game

I thought valente was very poor 2nd half i suppose he needs ges

I have'nt got Setanta (sp) so didn't see the game, but from reading the posts on this thread we played well, brilliant news. COYB

I am more than happy with the result. It is a pre-season game, which are for fitness and experimentation, and we, at times, played a full strength Bundesliga runner-up off of the park. This gives me great hope for the coming season, and if Pienaar fits in we have some great potential for the league and the UEFA cup.
