Well done Rach

Foreign Aid is not just giving loads of money to other countries, it’s a kind reciprocal way of trading around the world disguised under this terminology ‘foreign aid’. The ‘money’ we send often comes with favourable trade agreements and promises, medicine, technology etc. I don’t claim to fully understand it but it’s kind of a way of trading without all the tariffs and red tape that comes with it. Kind of like “I’ll give you £50 which will help you spend today but when tickets come out for the derby next season I want 2 guaranteed for £40 and a £10” food voucher” a kind of under the counter agreement
And, the more resilient the world is the better protected the UK will be long term. Sending millions in aid to countries with underdeveloped systems nay mean we save billions later.

On a side note, is there a discussion to be had on means testing the child benefit payment?

it’s capped at 60k a year for one parent, or a household income of 100k a year.

There’s a lot of couples (me and my mrs included) receiving this payment every month when it can be better spent elsewhere, on more vulnerable people?
There is a kind of means testing in that over 60k it reduces on a sliding scale what you get up to 80k when it’s zero.

The household income limit is 120k, which is the main issue for me as you could have two people on 59k who would get full benefit but then one parent on 60,500 and one on 16k say and they get it reduced so yeah it does need looking at

Absolutely ridiculous. Hybrids are still paying fuel tax every time they fill up with petrol.
There's some headaches coming with this, mechanics/mot garages officiating mileage, and the iceberg in the water... "I'm moving abroad, so I'm selling my popular electric vehicle, motivated seller, practically giving it away" - "sold". Thanks for the cash, oh and I haven't recorded the mileage as mine so that 200k miles is now your problem, there's a bill incoming.
Because the rules are, you don't need MOT for the first three years of a new vehicles life. This being brought in from 2028 means there's a way to avoid this for the next 6 years. Sounds good, after all it's the rich that can afford these battery powered sports cars...
Or buy one of these new chinese cars, at the push of a button in beijing an extra 300k miles appears on your digital odometer.

300,000x3p/100=£9 grand. There's a storm coming.

She’d save a fortune if she stopped giving handouts like WfA to rich pensioners like yourself Joe
I paid my stamp so entitled to a pension mate ..... left school never signed on never received dole as they called it in those days - lucky no - went everyday banging on doors for my apprenticeship - my late father made me do it told me only way to get my foot in the door for a job .....

Rachel from accounts did that budget for her party & sir Kier yesterday to appease the back benches mate ....

I voted for them ....

I like the fact that the same people who wanted Brexit and lower Net Migration, and have now got it, will also be very angry about stagnating growth and £28b of new taxes. But will fail to make the connection.

Paying your stamp is not an automatic entitlement to a pension (although I do agree that there should be a state pension). The stamp you paid whilst working supported the pensioners of that time, it’s not a savings account for your old age.
