There were some good times under martinez at the start. But it did seem to get progressively worse and when you consider in the 2nd and 3rd season he has a world class striker up front in lukaku and still finished bottom half twice, that's pretty poor going. It was very difficult to see where everton would progress with him as manager and it was probably right he got sacked.

The diamond of English football comment about Ross barkley was a bit far fetched too

With respect, it's a ludicrous suggestion.
He's not cut out to manage a club side where he's responsible for fitness, training, tactics and game management.
He's okay with an international side as he only has to deal with tactics and game management every couple of months and no fitness/training as that's done by the players at their clubs.
Week in, week out footie and he gets found out.
