Welcome Charlie Adam

How hard is it to be a set piece coach , seriously ?. wonder what the paÿ is, what are the hours ?.
There is way more too it than many fans think. It's largely a tactical/analytical role, the individual needs to be able to look at how the opposition approaches defensive/attacking setups in set piece situations and work out routines to break through or protect against them, and you need multiple routines. That's before you even start talking about throw ins. It's a job for a bit of a tactics nerd really. Just because you might have scored a few free kicks as a player doesn't make you a good set piece coach, hence someone like Baines is not the answer imo, it needs to be a proper person.

In fairness you're completely right on this one. The deal to bring him here stunk and now we've seen the waste of money if was it's become clear it literally was a family back-hander. I'll let it slide this time as we'd possibly be in the Championship now without Moyes, but I don't like and don't want to see this kind of thing again.
That's Moyes's M.O.

He did it first time round handing cash out to family members and he'll do it again for whoever he likes.

A book could be written about the jobs and cash for the boys at this club over the years. It's been a cash machine.

You're overthinking it there - it's a way of throwing a few quid at a favoured agent.

Most set pieces are scored either direct or from creating space and overloads through blocking and mismatches in who marks who. It doesn't require hugely detailed or specialised tactical analysis to work out those relatively simple things. A coaching team doing the basics of watching some videos of their next opponents can work it out.

Consistent quality deliveries and greater physicality than your opponents will generally move the odds slightly in your favour.

Was definitely an odd one this. Maybe Moyes was just trying to get as much help in as possible with the precarious position we were in when he took over. Who knows but i am certain he wont be missed.

have we appointed a new set-piece coach yet?
i see keith andrews is likely to be promoted from set piece coach to manager at Brentford, shows the importance some clubs place in the role.

Is Leighton not a 'proper person'?

OR...

They did their analysis, appointed him, he was rubbish and they sacked him.
